First off, doing a Green Lantern cartoon when you’re doing an adult GL show on HBO is really, really stupid, second, if you’re going to reference magical girls, AT LEAST watch Precure!  Don’t base all your shit on a nearly 40 year old manga!

A lot of this (not Creature Commandos or anything else canon to Gunn’s cinematic universe) is probably headed to Toonami, so get ready.

New logo:

Following two live-action projects going nowhere, the Powerpuff Girls and Thundercats are getting animated movies.  (Now that comic crossover they did makes more sense).

The next movie your really, REALLY annoying niece will be obsessed with.

And finally, JUST ANIMATE ABSOLUTE BATMAN!

More news as it comes in.

I mean, in their interview about MAWS, they very explicitly, and strangely proudly, admitted that MAWG was gonna pull heavily from a Toonami show, and Sailor Moon was the only one that made much sense.

They are completely shameless about this. And these type of people have never seen any anime that wasn’t spoonfed to them via Toonami, so don’t expect the inspiration to go outside that window.

I don't get why you're so negative about this. MAWS has been fantastic, so if they want to go full Sailor Moon with this I'm all for it.

I’ve made no secret I want this over and done so they can animate Absolute DC, which takes more cues from manga anyway.

Besides that though, I have issues when references are shallow.  If you’re going to do a magical girl motif (again, a bad idea when you’re making an HBO series with the same characters and mythos) shouldn’t you know what Precure is?  How about Nanoha?  Cutey Honey?  Anything besides this one nearly 40 year old manga?  It feels shallow and surface level, and that bothers me when it’s part of these characters with very rich histories.

I mean Sailor Moon is exponentially more well-known in the US than any of those other franchises you mentioned. Precure isn't really a thing here, Nanoha is extremely niche, and Cutie Honey is even older than Sailor Moon. When you have one franchise that transcended anime fandom to become a legitimate pop-culture phenomenon, that's seen as THE magical girl series by all but the most hardcore anime fans, of course you're going to draw most of your inspiration from it.
