But yeah I've been seeing this design in one form another what feels like everywhere lately.

Well, the Blue Exorcist manga started in 2009, so even though this didn't get animated until fairly recently, it might have happened many years before that in the manga, but I don't know the exact time frame that the corresponding chapters came out.

Yeah true...didn't consider the manga.

If it's part of the original series it likely predates Demon Slayer by a year or 2.
