Top Gun Posted Sunday at 05:51 PM Posted Sunday at 05:51 PM The people who were watching the show weekly on Japan would have known, because those episodes were advertised as such beforehand. Hell, I knew about it when I first watched them. Pretty sure it was reported over here by the likes of ANN. That was also the third time the anime has aired tie-in filler for a movie, and Toonami showed one of those. The filler with the crew meeting the giant girl who could change her size was a teaser for Film Z. Just be thankful you didn't have to suffer through the Strong World episodes... And regardless of how it was depicted, has One Piece ever been the sort of show that would just randomly incinerate an enemy into nothingness? Like, that's not remotely how this series does things. Oda has historically used character deaths very sparingly, and nearly always as part of some major plot event. While this sometimes stretches credulity (looking at you Pell), it also lets fun characters stick around and do more fun stuff in the future. Having one of Blackbeard's core crew members get one-shot in a meaningless side scene would feel pretty lame. 1 Quote

I haven't tried to watch any One Piece movies, because I'd have to cross check when they premiered so I don't get spoilers for the anime. There's been VERY few deaths period, not even for villains, and I don't count flashback deaths, as those deaths are part of the history of the characters and world. Someone who is dead from the beginning of the story is not someone we got attached to over the course of the series and we obviously wouldn't be surprised by their death. You'd think a world that has constant battles involving pirates, criminal organizations, rebels, and the military would have more people getting killed. When nobody died in the Buster Call at Enies Lobby, I just threw my hands up. LOL I remember Pell, some people thought that was 4Kids intervening. I never really thought of Burgess as a major character that would cause the whole story to come crashing down if he gets killed off. Sabo killing Burgess after his provocation would be fitting and satisfying, and add some gravity to the events of the arc, that someone actually died during all that chaos and destruction on Dressrosa. I don't think even any civilians or grunts died? But I don't see how no one could be killed by Pika rearranging the landscape, or Fujitora dropping all the debris on those pirates. Quote
