The_annoying_one Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I bought some potato chip dip from Amazon because it’s apparently not sold anywhere nearby. The package was delayed for a day or two and the dip is dairy-based. Probably sat on the truck without refrigeration for a day or two. Worth the risk or should I just chunk it? Quote
mthor Posted March 15 Posted March 15 If it smells ok, and it's still cold where you are,I might take my chances, but then again, I'm retired and can afford to spend a couple of days in the bathroom. 2 Quote

The temperature has been around 80° for the past few days, and the container that the dip was in was room temperature. I’d much rather throw $5 in the trash than risk food poisoning. 1 Quote
mthor Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Yeah, it's been in the 20's-30's here, hence taking chances, but 80 is a nice temperature for cultures. 1 Quote

André Toulon Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Was it in a can with one of those pull tabs.... because yeah, you could have eaten that. Those fuckers are stored in warehouses with 0 refrigeration. Im not going to pretend that i know why or how... something, something preservatives or some shit but it wont go bad until you open it. If not, then maybe not....i prolly would have given it the smell test and ran it Quote
The_annoying_one Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 It was in a plastic container with a pull tab. Didn’t look secure enough for me so I just tossed it. No big deal, I guess. Quote

No, the real lesson learned would have been if you had decided to say screw it and ate it anyway. You'd be posting from the porcelain perch then. 2 Quote

I once made something with freezer butter that turned out had expired 4 years ago. Do not recommend. 2 Quote
