To be fair it is one hell of a father in this case. But extra props to any characters who give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise instead. It'll be interesting to see how all the others react when they inevitably eventually find out, in the real version of the story this time, if we indeed get the future seasons. Yeah, I'm definitely curious what Phelous/Pheles(?) meant there. Does he want him dead or is he trying to push Rin further at any cost for some other reason? He seems more mischevious and scheming than evil, and overall has given Rin quite a bit of aid just by bringing him here and keeping him "hidden" giving him time to train and learn his powers, but we'll see.
