Anime Filler List puts 16 and 17 as mixed canon/filler.  The filler here must really throw things off and isn't just extended battles and whatnot then. 😄

Exactly. Apparently there were a couple of things in the last battle introduced to kick off the anime only second half (the next arc was still ongoing at the time when the anime got here), like Rin's sword getting damaged.

They are all ignored and we jump back to the break point for Season 2. Including more varied reactions from Rin's teammates.

It also explains the huge shift in storyline for Yukio, Satan, etc. It was all anime-only.

Oh, the Satan story was totally ridiculous haha.  Satan went from being a badass troll to a Twilight character!  How the hell did these writers think trying to make SATAN sympathetic was a good idea?!

Yeah, I believe that second battle with Amaimon was the end of the last arc that had finished in the manga at the time.

And this is where we leave off until Season 2. When you think about it we haven't even gotten to the backstories of the rest of the crew yet since it caught up so quickly. Or even the rest of Shura's backstory, really looking forward to seeing the rest of that since I've always loved her character.

Yeah.  The show was really just in the introductory set up phase and then diverged into a filler route.  Very odd.  Weird move to make an anime so soon and then not just end the season or do a standalone filler arc that wouldn't affect anything.
