Invincible Fight Girl: Coming to Adult Swim? (Or "How to Back the Wrong Horse in a Two-Horse Race")

Recommended Posts

Your eyes are not deceiving you. There is a rumor going around social media that Invincible Fight Girl is moving to Adult Swim instead of being a Cartoon Network premiere.

Apparently, one of the reasons for this, if not the main reason for this is because "the executives were worried about the excessive punching and kicking going on."

My brother in Chuck Jones, YOU GREENLIT A WRESTLING CARTOON! AND YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT HAVING THEM HITTING PEOPLE?

And what's worse is this takes away ANOTHER CN original from the pipeline.

  • My Adventures with Superman and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal previously moved to AS, and Supes even got a cushy Toonami premiere timeslot.
  • Checkered Past has aired Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Ed, Edd, n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Samurai Jack, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Evil Con Carne in the first year alone. Samurai Jack was the first to relocate to Adult Swim.
  • Craig of the Creek is ending, with We Baby Bears possibly on the chopping block.
  • Tiny Toons Looniversity technically premieres on Max first.
  • Total Drama Island and Ivandoe took a year to premiere on CN here in the States. Neither of them have very good marketing.
  • Cartoonito takes up only one hour a day, and usually airs Bugs Bunny Builders and Batwheels.
  • The early morning hours, Cartoonito included, are now airing commercial-free.
  • All that's realistically left to premiere is Teen Titans Go! and the Gumball reboot, and even the latter might not last long under these conditions.

At this rate, I can see why we're digging up old Cartoon Network material now. It's clearly the part of the channel treated worse, and it's the one said channel is named after.

I'm just.....so tired of all this.

Any decent sources on this? Heard the rumors, but also seen the rumors come from nobodies on Twitter. I wouldn’t put it past them, I just don’t see any good sources.

Hoping real hard it’s not true cause that shit is sure to be dumped on Toonami otherwise.

Let’s just hope it’s not for real. Then tomorrow they’ll announce it

Might as well split 'em into two channels at this point.

There's really no ratings benefit to AS airing between 6am and 5pm, 5pm is really pushing it. Though at this point they do target all audiences with CN daytime so they might as well just become one entity and Adult Swim can go back to being a block for a few hours while the FOX shows can feasibly air outside of that branding and Toonami could as well.

But they're continue to do things the easy way, put anything PG on the Adult Swim side and leave daytime CN as a husk with very sparse premieres.

IFG should air on CN hours, it should be aimed at young viewers not just teens and adults. It would really be a shame if it's wasted on Adult Swim like Unicorn and My Adventures with Superman but I suppose that's better than it being exclusive to Max. It is all but assure to fill a spot on Toonami if it's not on daytime CN.

I think the state of Toonami is best summed up by the launching of Toonami Rewind, reminding you when it used to be better, this girl power thing from before Zaslav came in with his fiscal chainsaw like his name was Denji, and Netflix getting this -

I feel like if you’re focused entirely on the past, it means you have nothing to offer the present.

I sincerely hope Sakamoto Days can escape Netflix Jail, because I don't see Funimation or Crunchyroll involved in this, and TMS Entertainment does have a connection with Toonami.

But if it's a Netflix exclusive like Stone Ocean, I can only wish the One Piece fans shed some light on this thanks to how good the remake's first season was.
