Legendary Pictures to distribute films through Sony (minus Dune and Godzilla) which gives Sony access to most live-action anime in development

They were definitely trying to jump ship from WB with all the madness that’s going on with that studio’s decisions.

Sony would be happier to play ball with anime adaptations versus the studio that wants to prioritize new Superman and Harry Potter films and Discovery Max.

Legendary’s issues apparently date back to late 2020 when Warner dumped all their films on HBO Max same day and didn’t bother telling anyone.  That was hugely popular with consumers but hugely unpopular with studios.  (Enforcement of theater windows is the one thing studios are cheering Zaslav for).

If they're smart, they'll look at the track record on live action anime adaptations and just let those rights expire.

So like, any day now expect an announcement that The Rock will be starring as All Might.
