Sony would be happier to play ball with anime adaptations versus the studio that wants to prioritize new Superman and Harry Potter films and Discovery Max. Legendary’s issues apparently date back to late 2020 when Warner dumped all their films on HBO Max same day and didn’t bother telling anyone. That was hugely popular with consumers but hugely unpopular with studios. (Enforcement of theater windows is the one thing studios are cheering Zaslav for).
