Doom Metal Alchemist
Temp banning? Permabanning? IP banning? Shadow banning? Hell banning?
K_N
Technically all of the above and more. Whether or not they'll be used is up to mr. admin.
Misaka
so what is hell banning? I've heard about it but never seen it
K_N
so what is hell banning? I've heard about it but never seen it Same thing as a shadowban basically. The account holder doesn't know it but none of their content is visible to anyone else.
Admin
Temp banning? Permabanning? IP banning? Shadow banning? Hell banning? so far (if you count the Proboard) one. A SN that appeared to be a spambot was permed. If you're talking just this board then zero.
Doom Metal Alchemist
so far (if you count the Proboard) one. A SN that appeared to be a spambot was permed. If you're talking just this board then zero. I didn't mean what bannings have happened, but rather what methods of banning are you planning on using when the situations arise? Like how on the ASMB they decided to do away with IP banning. Are there any banning methods at your disposal that you're just like, "Meh, we're not going to use that"? K_N
I mean, technically since we have root control over the server I can ban entire countries, continents or ISPs. I doubt we'll do that.

Like how on the ASMB they decided to do away with IP banning. Are there any banning methods at your disposal that you're just like, "Meh, we're not going to use that"? yeah there's actually all kinds of stuff we can do. From various types of bans to shifting forum permissions such that specific users can't access posting areas. I actually think there are more tools at our disposal than ASMB had in any of its iterations. But having said that, I truly hope we won't really have to ban anyone either. And the content standards are vastly different, as is the general approach to moderation. so - it's kinda like - we don't need to use those types of tools as much on this board as we did on ASMB, but also if we have to, we actually have a whole bunch of different stuff we can do on this board that we couldn't do on that board. so maybe a little irony there. SwimModSponges
So uh... If I were to post dinosaur porn...
Admin
So uh... If I were to post dinosaur porn... basically the fan fiction section has tools that warn readers of adult content. As long as people have clear warnings before they stumble upon it - I don't much mind for the most part what people post. As long as people are spoiler/content marking their posts and/or using the content warning tools in the Fan Fiction section with sufficient content warnings etc, it's not an issue particularly. Though we obviously reserve the right to remove stuff. Generally though I don't think we will do a lot of that (content related purgings and/or bannings). It would be different if - like somebody was attacking the board w/pron images in a seemingly malicious context. But stuff that just comes up in regular course of posting, or part of a pic posting thread, or a story that's got mature content etc, isn't something we're going to plan on deleting/banning about. Rather, the current policy is just to spoiler mark objectionable content (stuff that gets reported) with a content warning just above the spoiler box. That may change. Like I don't want this to turn into a pron board or something. But at the moment that's how we're handling content.
SwimModSponges
All right, well just so you know, I intend to post the dinosaur porn section of my fanfiction later today. And it's going to be extremely graphic. I encourage everyone to read it.

Rather, the current policy is just to spoiler mark objectionable content (stuff that gets reported) with a content warning just above the spoiler box. Something about this that's confusing to me, is that in the anime folder, we had a thread that was asking "So is this where we post the porn?" Some of us posted hentai, and maybe the thread got way out of hand after I had last seen it, but the last I saw it, the worst that was posted were nipples. The thread ended up getting removed. I don't think any of us were banned for that thread, which I'm happy about, but I get the feeling I would be banned if I were to post hentai in more threads like that in the future. So it's like, is that kind of thread against the rules, or not? Would they only get removed without bannings, or if they continued to pop up, would bannings ensue? Also when I last saw it, we were all using spoiler boxes with content warnings.
SwimModSponges
Also, I posted that dinosaur porn in the fanfictions section and am desperate for feedback/validation on it.
Still Me
im more concerned about this 'shadow ban' concept.....since you know.....my lack of empathy tends to get me into my fair share of trouble.....im pro at least letting the user in on the ban...its kinda a dick move to just be 'mass ignored'

So they keep trying to post about their pills and whatever for sale and don't register a new account because they think their ads are working and everyone can definitely see them. And they simply didn't work. for one thing, there was an indicator in threads that there was a missing post that people would get confused about and post about. and even without that it didn't take somebody long to figure out that nobody was responding to posts and they'd just make another SN. Basically we stopped using them and they were disabled and/or done away with in the software we were using. I think it must have been early Lithium.
