I never watched season 1. What's the plot?

A rag tag group of anime kids rescue/steal a naked lady in a box and go on space adventures with a space ship that can arm wrestle other space ships.

There's also guns that shoot enchanted bullets, and magic space pirates. Also, Suzuka is not a kid. but that is basically the show in a nutshell.

Yeah I figured it was something a little out there like that... It probably isn't for me, but I've heard of it. It was on [as] for a bit wasn't it?

The climax battle scene is over the top. I feel like it could have done without the transformation scenes for the spaceships and just had a DBZ - esque battle in the digital/ether zone or whatever it was. They weren't very clear.

Anyways, it ran on Toonami back when I was being ostracized in school for not being a Christian and I gave up on it to watch cartoons and read the books I wanted to read. :|

I dont even remember what the fuck was on the Galactic Layline or why they were even looking for it in the first place

Like .... there was a hot spring episode and I assume Gene paid his gay bff in sexual favors in exchange for all the money he lent him ...but yeah ... everything else is pretty foggy

The Galactic Leyline is a powerful supercomputer / ... magic conductor? That could manipulate reality, alter timelines, bring people back from the dead, etc. Basically a wish granting machine god created by a mysterious extinct race of extraterrestrials. The protagonist crew never figured out what it was, really. Melfina was an android created as a navigation system that.. /who could chart a course through this magic barrier around the leyline without going bonkers because it janks up your mind. Gene didn't want to tell her that because he was afraid she would be disappointed, but he decides as captain to go after the leyline anyways, which is like... wouldn't she find out that way? She does and they have this crisis of conscience moment where the bad guy is whispering toxic nothings in their ears about how Melfina is just a tool and Gene was just using her, etc. Gene had no idea this Hazanko guy wanted to wish for immense power and winds up defeating him and saving the universe basically as a side quest to porking Melfina... The whole series is a succession of terrible hormonal decisions on Gene's part being counteracted by his immaculate luck and the skill of his crew (which he acquired through luck) which is 40% girls who are inordinately stronger than him.

Episode 18 reveals that Gene never slept with Fred when he says he's not going to after an awkward pause. Fred kept lending them money because A: Gene saved his life from an assassin (Suzuka) who becomes a crew member in order to pursue the pirates who are pursuing the Outlaw Star and Gene's crew because it was their ship to begin with... and B: Fred has a crush on Gene.

The plot is actually really complicated and you have to pay close attention to figure what the fuck is going on in between the sweet space battles, gun fights, explosions & pseudo-fanservice. ( the animation seems to drop in quality every time a female figure is focused on)

No, yeah, your summary was better, not disputing that. Just nerding out with nothing better to do. >__>#

All I'm saying is, they totally left it open for a season 2 and did not follow up.

I want to use images from the show and a 3d printer to make a model of the Outlaw Star. With all the different weapon attachments for the grappler arms. I would have relentlessly pleaded to get my folks to shell out hundreds of dollars for something like that when I was a kid. More fun to make my own now, I guess... xD

I had ... might still have the figurines my parents bought me for a Xmas present. I have the DVD box set too because my parents dont/didnt really know what I was interested in so anything they saw me watching or even talking about, they jumped on.

Usually they end up watching it too but I dont think they really got into Outlaw Star. Cowboy Bebop they liked. My mom is in denial that she likes anime. She'll be like .... I only know about the stuff because y'all are watching it.

>.>

Oh okay mom ... nobody had even started watching Demon Slayer but here you are asking about Tanjiro over dinner.

hmm... yeah, it looks like figurines are a thing, but I'm thinking of something a bit more... life-like-esque gundam model hyper nerd status, with moving parts.

Have you confronted your mom? Get her to embrace her internal weeb?

There may not be a season 2, but there was a short spin-off series called Angel Links with a couple of the characters that belonged to a security company of the same name that were in one episode. As to whether it's any good or not, I watched it a long time so can't really remember it much at all anymore honestly, meaning I probably thought it was mediocre at best.

Yup, that's set in the same universe...      ....       their ship looks dumb... oh look Fred Lowe made a cameo... less plot, more fanservice, (jailbait fanservice this time)... they gave the same name to the lizard man? Are all Saurians named Deus? ... Okay, just from the first half of the first episode, I have concluded that this is terrible. Is this the reason we didn't get a season 2? They tested the water with this garbage? They should have just jumped into season 2! They fucked it up! /nerdrage

A cat... with bat wings for ears... How could something set in the universe of a show I love and have such nostalgia for be so horrible? Does this get better as it goes? I don't even want to give it a shot but I have to because Outlaw Star was so great....  They must have given the reigns to someone else.

There was an OVA planned as a follow up series called "Sword of Wind," however it was abandoned for unknown reasons. There was also supposed to be a manga follow-up once the OVA plans were trashed, but nothing ever came of that either.

So I wouldn't count on a second season at any point in the future. It seems like the creator of the series has moved on.

No, I know there's no more. No delusions there. It's never happening. They could at least pass the franchise on to someone else, like someone who knows what the flip they're doing. Unlike who ever was responsible for Angel Links... I'm literally going to vomit...
