Why is this episode getting re aired again

What did I miss

Oh you missed it.

Apparently the crew couldn't air a new show in time to air right after Hunter x Hunter, so to fill in that timeslot this week, they ran an online poll asking what the most favorite HxH episode was, and episode 135 won, which they are going to rerun instead.

Upon conquering a castle and proclaiming himself King of the surrounding lands, Meruem gathers the wisest minds to compete with his own strategic brilliance. Whether this is actually a way to learn of human tactics or not, is unclear, however before too long an uneasy amount of pride swells within him as he takes down and kills master after master of various strategic board games (like chess).

Eventually, Komugi enters the room. Clumsily she makes her introduction as the master of Gungi and she and the King sit down to play. Over a variety of games, Meruem slowly learns of the earnestness that this frail human has for practically everything. Though he initially views it as weak, he can’t seem to win a game against her so he ups the ante. In order to see what she would truly be tempted with, Meruem asks for a wager on the next hand — if she loses, he will take one of her limbs, but if she wins, she can have whatever she desires. A bit confused, she notes that she hasn’t thought of anything else besides playing Gungi, so she would have to think of something later. But as far as losing — she thought that it was a kind of silly request, as if she were to lose, then her life would no longer be of value to him — so rather than a limb, her life may be a better offering.

While initial I saw this girl as an obnoxious, sniveling girl clearly she has only one desire in life and that is to continue to play Gungi. Meruem is also surprised that she not only didn’t fear being injured, but also didn’t want anything that he could provide. In other words, she is a being completely different than he.

Since Meruem’s character is really only tested after multiple defeats, he is guided by the Royal Guard to the conclusion that Komugi is weaker in every way, physically. Therefore if he can’t solve the problem with a direct attack, he should choose another root — through violence. As Pouf suggests killing her, as she is a threat to the King, Meruem eventually makes up his mind to slaughter her as he cannot be aloud to show weakness. However when he enters her room, she is already being attacked by a bird and he becomes angry killing the bird and asking why she did not call out for help.

And this is their relationship — though it is slightly interrupted by the main story line as Gon and his group come to exterminate the Chimera Ants — that of respect and strategic brilliance. Komugi shows King Meruem his weaknesses and Meruem shows her his kindness. The relationship which everyone in Hunter X Hunter was bewildered about — including the audience — was this one and it concluded with Meruem declaring that he would never be able to beat her in a game of Gungi.

Can't believe it's over.

So many great episodes for so many weeks.

Yeah man its really crazy.

I would honestly be up for a replay just to better understand the series, but that isn't happening

Yeah, I'd have re-watched if they expanded to bring back a couple of re-run spots.

Haven't picked up the blu-rays yet either since I hadn't seen anything of this before it joined Toonami, so might do that if the blu-rays that are out so far get a big enough discount at the holidays, since there are so many eps and already several volumes out that I'd be behind on.

Yeah I think a long runner would have worked for a late night rerun spot, but shorter and quicker turnover works too.

I actually thought the series was much longer, so I am definitely thinking of picking the series up on disc now that I know it'd be much more feasible to watch.

Yeah, I think long runners make pretty good late-night reruns.

Same here, for some reason I thought it was even longer too.
