MEXobiologist Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 is this chrysoprase? thats the best i got. i want to make some jewelry with these but i want to know fo sho what it is before i sell it. unfortunately, i completely forgot what its called and never labeled the bag. cuz i'm a dumb
MEXobiologist Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Idk but it sure looks cool i think so too when i do a google image search for chrysoprase or austrailian jade, what comes up is extremely similar but the piece i had in the past was much more green. i know many things can effect the coloration tho, so thats not really always the best indicator.
StarPanda Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Find your nearest rock expert and email them the pic or a college that has some geology program and it should help
MEXobiologist Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 le sigh, i was hoping it might be easier than that. i'll have to go the route of finding one on the internet and ask.
StarPanda Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 The internet always has the answers you just have to go deep enough
JeNewBee Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 My neighbor's son is a geologist But that doesn't really help though I guess
MEXobiologist Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 My neighbor's son is a geologist But that doesn't really help though I guess Well, it could if you show him the picture and ask.
MEXobiologist Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 The internet always has the answers you just have to go deep enough There is some sort of fisting joke in there, I'm certain of it.
God-Says-No Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 could be low grade malachite did you find this? could also potentially determine if its pure or mixed
JeNewBee Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Well, it could if you show him the picture and ask. I rarely see him I'll see what I can do Might take awhile
God-Says-No Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 He said "yea i cant tell because they polished it. idk what the crystal shape is or what the inside looks like" if hes working on his phd in geology then he should know its easier to tell when its polished when it has a distinct none additive color
Zenigundam Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 if hes working on his phd in geology then he should know its easier to tell when its polished when it has a distinct none additive color Fancy science jargon doesn't make you right.
God-Says-No Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Then what is it read my post then... instead of liking that worthless fucking broken condom zeni's comment you twat
MEXobiologist Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 could be low grade malachite did you find this? could also potentially determine if its pure or mixed no, these particular pieces come from Australia, that is all i remember from the conversation i had with the dealer when i bought this in Missouri over the summer. my searching was based on that, which brought me to conclusion that it is most likely chrysoprase. its not malachite. i am only 100% certain it is not because i specifically remember thinking, "well shit, don't forget that name" as it was something i hadn't heard before. i talked to a friend last night who collects gems and the like, he seems to think chrysoprase is a good guess given the location of origin, color/translucent qualities, and the formation from growth along the bottom. it looks quite similar to his own much larger pieces, even those in their rough natural state. he is going to show his dealer and ask what he thinks though. apparently there are some tests i can do involving dry heat vs moist heat which may also help to determine if it is correct but may not be necessary and save me some re polishing.
Master-Debater131 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 That looks like sometime I tried to bake that went horribly horribly wrong......
