So I might join the national guard.

Gotta love those encouraging recruiters though huh. :| Supposingly he's going to pull my line scores from the original ASVAB I took that I aced, and give me a list of jobs based off that so that's exciting.. not that it matters that much anyway for the whole weekend warrior thing idk. Until I see the opportunities and bonuses I'm not doing anything. I know recruiters are only out there to fill some spots and get their numbers when it comes down to it..

Because I already have time served and time spent in a combat zone, and the guard gives me access to the same benefits I had without having to do it over again. :|

So there's like three MOSs or jobs I'm looking at..

25U -radio/IT signal support..(basically the IT guys of the army)- This is the most relevant to my actual career interests, but it's pretty popular and there's only one position to fill so no sign on bonus.

68W- combat medic..which is pretty much self explanitory. I'm not sure how this position would work in the guard and how the MOSQ training would be..I've heard stories from some medics that they had to operate on live goats and other animals in AIT. :( but there's a 20k bonus.. and I'm already pretty medically inclined. I've thought about training for positions like EMT/firefighter etc in the past but I've never actually felt compelled to I guess..

88M- Truck driver.. I know on the active side the AIT (advanced individual training) probably requires you to drive every wheeled vehicle in the arsenal, but for the guard it's a shorter course.. and I've already been studying for a bus driver position for my outside job.. This to has a 20K sign on bonus.

It's pretty hard to pass up a freakin' 20K sign uo bonus especially when the MOS is relevant to my outside job, but my gut tells me to go with 25U.. To be honest I'm probably not going to like being a bus driver, and I'd probably hate being a semi truck driver even worse. I just want the commercial drivers license for other jobs that don't require so much extensive travel, but still require a commercial drivers license.

The reason I bumped this thread is because I don't want to make a lot of job related threads or spam too much, but I've been more than inundated with possibilities atm.. I havent even seen the full list of opportunities with the guard yet, but 0_0

I think 88M is my best option.. EXCEPT with signing any military contract.. I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up deployed with this unit driving HETS (Heavy Equipment Transport...Whatever the S is I forgot). as a UAV operater one of the people I worked with was deployed as a fueler.. and I've heard some stories. I bet that's an amazing feeling.. Driving a massive ass truck tractor/trailer combo with a bunch of tanks on it (I say that because it's also a massive target)

:| So many feels right now.

The thing is.. With me already training to be a bus driver.. I can free up my weekend almost though I have to call the company, and do a bit more digging I'm not 100% sure, but when I get MOS qualified as an 88M according to my info I already have all the certs to drive a bus outside of the military.. So the tests I've been cramming for I probably wouldn't even have to take... Plus 20K up front. which is not an incentive bonus I can really shake a stick at. :|
