Aren’t all Pokémon games repetitive though?  I like how it’s like the original game with the addition of encounters not being random (not random because you see them not just walk and bam! Pikachu encounter)

Me too especially since my reintroduction to Pokémon was Go. Let’s Go is very similar in catch mechanics and encounters.

I have never bought anything Pokemon before. I know zero about it.

The boy wanted it so I got it for him. I had to set up his character and all that, and walked around for a minute, and caught about 5 of those things. I got bored fast.
