GunStarHero
Recently picked up two Outlaw Star art books and a Japanese Laserdisc. Wasn't sure if this would go in Anime or Toonami. And apologies in advance for the quality of some pictures. The first book (pictured below) is a doujinshi art book, and is broken into three sections. The first section a colored, glossy set of pages from the manga, inexplicably transitioning from that to a full page, colored nude of Suzuka, followed by a few sketches of the XGP/Outlaw Star annnnd more nude sketches of Suzuka. There is also a fold out poster tucked into the front, as seen below. The next section focuses on concept art/sketches for Angel Links. The final section is much the same, albeit for Outlaw Star this time. The next book is from the Dragon Magazine Collection and focuses primarily on the anime. It contains a plethora of high quality still images from the show, and even some colored concept art/sketches from the manga. It also includes a foldout poster.with the same image as the cover sleeve. Colored concept art/sketches Storyboard Bonus comic Ad for Outlaw Star books The final item is Outlaw Star #13 on Laserdisc. I particularly like the Laserdisc set because it shares cover art with the VHS set, but it actually shows off the artwork properly as it was designed for the album-style cover and not the slim box of a VHS. Size comparison of the laserdisc and a DVD All original inserts included Tagging people that were interested in seeing these: @molarbear@DBZ4ever@inhumanrampager 3

Yes but laserdisc was popular in some parts of Asia. You can find lots of older anime on laserdisc in Japanese.

I never found out, did they mean anything? Where they just there for looks? I mean I thought it was a nice touch with the end themes, but they would mean more if they had a story behind them

Looks like the artist was initially hired for conceptual art too. Edited February 24, 2019 by GunStarHero
