"Everyone else has a three bedroom house"

I got that "richers" episode of South Park on in the background, and Token is singing to himself how he doesn't belong because he's rich and everyone else in town is poor. Part of the song was paraphrased in the title of this thread.

And i'm like, lol, what, three bedroom houses are for poor people? When I was in high school I was considered by some to be a rich kid in part because our house has four bedrooms. Yeah, it's not three, but it's close, and I don't think one bedroom draws the hard line between "rich kid" and "poor kid."

Dude, you live in Cali

the simple act of just owning anything in that area requires nothing short of a human sacrifice

Not all of Cali is created equal. When my family moved into this house in the central valley in 1996, it cost about $150,000 (two story, four bedrooms, living room, "family room", "game room", home office, three car garage, three FULL baths). Our house before that was in the Bay Area, nowhere near as nice or large, single story, cost about $600,000.

It's possible part of the joke (a joke that Token doesn't really understand right away, as elaborated in the end of that episode) is that their constant ribbing is just out of play, between friends. That Token doesn't see it as joking is sort of highlighted by the obliviousness of those lyrics, perhaps.

Well yeah, that's how the episode plays out in the end, if memory serves. But it is true they see him as the rich kid, one thing I remember is that he is the only one with a DVD player while all the other kids only have VCR's. He has designer jeans and the other kids get their clothes at "J-Mart." etc

True, but also, they make most their episodes in like a week.
