Toonami's Loses Back Hour

Toonami also announced, a day after the announcement of SAO III on the block, that they're getting rid of the 4-5 hour.  Reruns of Pop Team Epic and Iron-Blooded Orphans will be gone. While I never watched late that night to begin with and I doubt they even care about whatever airs in that timeslot, this means the block will soon be reduced to 5 hours long, further heightening the competition for other anime that many have wished would get more exposure on cable TV.  This is now matching the length the crew wanted to work with a year ago.

Personally, this means that my usual last anime of the night, Hunter x Hunter, will only end ONE HOUR away from the end of the whole block. I'm not too happy that I will have to stay up til 3 in the morning knowing a show as good as that is now so close to the end of the block by comparison.

This is reminding me of what the block turned into in 2015: fewer hours, almost no reruns, and a new season of Sword Art in the middle. But this time, the fandom is more toxic. :$

More toxic now?  I dunno about that.  I think people have mellowed.  Maybe I'm just not going to the right places.

I'd say Toonami is actually quite likely to expand back into the 10 PM hour at some point. Now starting February 9th, the whole first 2 hours will be covered up with long-runners, and there won't be any room for seasonal series. That won't work for things like the new seasons of Lupin, Attack on Titan, or One-Punch Man (already assuming Mob Psycho Season 2 gets to replace MegaloBox). There is also that Gundam Origins show that must go SOMEWHERE if Toonami's airing that. So at some point I feel Saturday night will either go back to just having an hour of Family Guy as far as non-Toonami programming in prime-time goes, sandwiched between two episodes of Dragon Ball Super, or the Kai rerun will go to weeknights once Jack ends its run and DBS will lose its power hour encore.
