Where suddenly he goes from mastermind to naive and somewhat incompetent. There's no way the McGillis they portrayed this far does all this continual planning and scheming for 2/3rds of the show and then suddenly relies so much on the "legend" of the Gundam Bael and Agnika Kaieru and has pretty much zero backup plans, which leads to both his and Tekkadan's defeat.
