Gyaos Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 It's been three months since I earned my second Bachelor's degree in social work. I applied for a job as a substance abuse counselor, and the area I live in is plagued with an opioid epidemic that has been rattling the area for the last two decades. I'm hoping it works out, because I don't think I can be a paramedic anymore. 4
Ginguy Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Good luck. There is a severe shortage of substance abuse counselors across the country, hopefully you can get hired on and do some good work in your area. 2
PurgatoryGirl Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Congratulations and good luck with your job interview! 1

People told me to avoid the job because "it's not worth the pay." They were doing it for the money, which is a stupid fucking reason to go for a career (if you're heart's not in it). I learned that after getting my first degree. I want to help people if at all possible. Edited August 8, 2018 by Gyaos 3
PurgatoryGirl Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Hopefully, you will have luck with your job as a Substance Abuse Counselor. Years ago, my Sociology professor encouraged me into becoming a Probation Officer. Meanwhile, my family discouraged me from doing it. They claimed it was a dangerous job, that didn't pay well. More than anything my mother protested against me doing it. Edited August 8, 2018 by PurgatoryGirl
Zenigundam Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Good luck, people need to stop abusing substances 2

That is often the case for me, too. I received a phone call, and they want me in on Monday. I gave two weeks notice for my current job and Friday will be my final day of employment as a paramedic. I swear, I was never as confident in my entire life as when I walked in for that interview, and the interviewer was so kind and was very intrigued by my background as an EMT, which I believed helped a lot in her eyes.
