death_by_motorboat
can she get into my activity at all, or is she on her own private copy of the network?
PhilosipherStoned
Your activity? If she's a hacker with the right tools she could see that, but if not the worst you have to worry about is her clogging up your bandwidth, and well also possibly infecting your computer with malicious programs if neither of you have any firewalls or antivirus programs.

PhilosipherStoned
The only way she can see what you were doing is either through the use of a program designed to tell her what ports your computer is operating, or with admin privledges she might be able to see some stuff idk. If she has administrator priveledges on the network she could screw with you quite a bit by kicking you off. PhilosipherStoned
basic firewalls and standard network security usually takes care of this kind of thing. I guess you are using community wifi with no encryption or protection or what?

death_by_motorboat
i need admin and network privilege settings and they are just not here i guess the ISP has them... the only thing i want to make sure is that i am in control of sharing settings Edited January 8, 2018 by mumbojummie13

PhilosipherStoned
What OS do have windows something? You should have wireless security options on your computer regardless I'd think.

PhilosipherStoned
If you find the settings you need to choose WPA2 and set up a password. Usually the techs from your isp would have this set up for you or make sure it was done before leaving.

PhilosipherStoned
and they would've given you a standard password that you can change if you want. Usually the serial number for the modem or something like that. If you have your own purchased modem you can google your isp or look in the modem settings to change this probably.

PhilosipherStoned
She can't see that stuff just by being connected to your network if that's what you're asking. She'd have to be intentionally trying to spy on you and go out of her way to get some software for it. As long as you trust her and she's not a nosy tech type you should be fine anyway. If you don't trust her I'd find a way o change the password for sure. Edited January 8, 2018 by PhilosipherStoned

death_by_motorboat
i just realized its secure from both ends because i cant get any of her encrypted data or information either... i cant even see shes on the network so everything is done by the ISP other than the wifi password... i believe
death_by_motorboat
my main concern is passwords... specifically google passwords... everything has a main password that covers all google programs.. if she can get my google account password from having permission to be on the network, then she can also get all my chrome passwords.. although i am basically a hobo and have no sensitive information, she might be able to view my cable bill lol Edited January 8, 2018 by mumbojummie13
PhilosipherStoned
I mean not really your isp is only responsible for your connection. They don't usually care too much about how secure your personal network is.. I knew a dude that said he could break WPA..Maybe WPA2. and according to ths it has been done before, but you're wireless encryption/security is the only thing that keeps you protected. https://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/WPA2.html Edited January 8, 2018 by PhilosipherStoned

PhilosipherStoned
She can't see your passwords unless she's an administrator maybe, but I wouldn't be worried about it idk. Usually even if your the administrator the passwords only show up as little dots still.. Pretty sure she'd have to use a keylogger, or software designed to break password protection to do so.
