Satou Kazuma
i've read what scans were available for this manga turned anime, it was surprisingly entertaining to read even though there weren't enough translators to help with the scans. Chapinator_X
I remember reading it a while ago. I was excited for the anime, but I just watched the first episode, and I felt like it would've worked better as a short form series. Yuu's clingy stalker personality and Koizumi's unreasonably cold demeanor can be overbearing throughout the half hour duration. It does make up for it with how great the ramen looks though. But that's why the chapters are 11 pages and not 40. Edited January 5, 2018 by imchapp.in
BUU8800
MAL seems to hold that consensus that it shoulda been a short too. As someone who hasn't read the source material the length didn't bother me so much, but I do get the nagging suspicion it'll be very repetitive very quickly. Which I don't really mind so long as I like it admittedly. But we'll see.
HardcoreHunter
There are too many food anime and most of them suck.
BUU8800
I can't think of any I'd say suck. Of the ones I watched anyway. Koufuku Graffiti and Amaama to Inazuma were wonderful. This one it's too early to say sucks imo. What else? Hmmm....well certainly Soma got pretty bad in the neverending Azami arc though.
Chapinator_X
Today's Menu for Emiya Family was honestly alot better, and that's a Fate spin-off. Isekai Shokudou was pretty good too, but more for the whimsy than the cooking. Wakakozake is classic.
HardcoreHunter
I don't think I have ever found myself more bored than when I watched Restaurant to another world. Ben-to started out alright but quickly became repetitive, then had a rushed ending.
Satou Kazuma
Maybe if they half the episode it would be better with the pacing.

See I found myself utterly charmed by Restaurant enough to finish it in a matter of a day or two and put it on my best of the year list. But then I love those slow, comfy, character study shows. Or at least I can. Never got around to actually watching Ben-to. I wanted to at one point but just never did. Ben-to is weak kid finds out you have to fight for sales that are on food indicated by sticker colors. A hot girl helps train him so that he doesn't suck. Outside of that it's forgettable in that I saw it two years ago and can't remember anything else from it. The other world show I think it just needed more of a plot. I was actually kinda interested at first to see where they were going to be going with the Dragon girl in the first episode, then him giving a job to the demon girl, but then it just goes onto the next story of another patron who only ever orders one damn thing ever rinse and repeat. They did somewhat touch on it again when Red Dragon ran into Death Dragon, and I thought there would be some kind of conflict, but nothing ever came of it. Would probably be made better by the guy needing to have an heir to pass the restaurant onto. He means just training someone to take on the job, while the girls take it as giving him a literal heir. BUU8800
Eh, with a calming slice of life show like that I took the plot as just learning about these characters and watching them interact. Plus enjoy their favorite meals together. Good enough for me. I only wished we'd gotten to spend even more time with them.
HardcoreHunter
I expected there to be more of an issue with him hiring a demon girl. At first they kinda set up some racial issues about it. That there might be someone who would get pissy about it, but the only time something like that pops up is with the dragon girl, and the patrons more just keep it to themselves. I guess I'm just not the "fun things are fun" type when it comes to sol. This feels like it went a step further into monotony though due to there being no real conflicts. At worst it was people saying x is better than y, and OMG we're almost out of item/ingredient to which the chef would be like huh I guess so well don't worry... Also I have made potato soup before, I highly doubt that demon girl could polish off a whole 5gal pot of the stuff. That stuff is starchy, dense, and filling. Then everyone else eats like 4-8 damn servings, is portion size a joke there or is this a normal japan thing? I'm guessing both as american portions tend to be much larger, but I'm guessing this may also come with the japanese not being used to the idea of a western restaurant. Most of the food shown anyway is japanese, or catered more towards japanese. It's like how General Toas chicken is big here but you won't really find it in china or japan. As food porn goes it was a little too simple, and the characters weren't the best at describing flavors and textures aside from sweet, crunchy, spicy. It may have been better had they gone into more detail, but it also felt like they were hitting a lot of foods where the native market knows the taste well enough so it's something that people often don't feel the need to describe, despite it being something newer overseas. I assume it would be like describing eating a PBJ after a while, you kinda assume that everyone understands what a pb&j is, until you find out that they don't have them in Europe, South America, or Africa, and the rest of the world often uses PB as a seasoning for meat rather than a sandwich filling and wouldn't think of eating the raw ingredient.
