Yup, she may not know this guy's upto something yet, but she already knew how Togusa would take this.

He's got clue tho.

I always wonder what "autistic mode" actually means. Interesting choice of a word.

This isn't the first time that term has been used in this series, nor in this season.

Me too.  And how can he receive transmissions, if he's not a cyborg?

Here we go!

From the Wiki:

Closed Shell Syndrome is a disease in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Closed Shell Syndrome is a form of cyberbrain-induced autism (not to be confused with the "Autistic Mode" used by the cyberbrains of soldiers, which merely fully shuts down their networking functions). It occurs when users who are too compatible with cyberbrain technology eventually shut themselves off from the outside world to avoid harming others or themselves by forcibly accessing their cyberbrains. CSS patients tend to be savants with extremely high computer skills, and are often used to build and deconstruct network barriers.

Finally the answer!  Though the naming still doesn't make sense haha.  Well, unless it's a reference to those super-autistic people who don't much interact with others.  I GUESS it could make sense?  Maybe thought "offline" would sound too much like "dead."  I don't know.  Still wish it would've been better explained either way, haha.

Yeah I think it refers to the limited communication and social skills associated w/ autism.

Hmmm...earpiece...implant?

Maybe?  I guess it could be an earpiece.  Just something else that was never clarified lol.

Yeah, and he's always able to do the cyber conference calls with the others.

Maybe he has just the basic cyberbrain enhancement and it's just that the rest of his body is natural unlike everyone else, so they call him that? But then he'd still be at least somewhat cyborg so that'd be a bit weird. Whatever it is, Aramaki seems to be the same or somewhat similar.

I don't think we'll ever know since the only time I think we got any details was a vague mention that he got further cyberization before Solid State Society, where his cyberbrain got hacked.

That's voice only so still possible with just an earpiece or some other device.  We've never seen him floating around the web as an avatar like the Major, etc.

I was just reading on the wiki that he just has a cyberbrain, like Aramaki.  We know HE'S not full cyborg because he can eat normal food as we were recently shown.  I don't see how this can be the case though when that was really never said in the show.  They might be pulling from other non-SAC resources.  And it sure as hell won't be my headcanon.  Kinda negates the while him not being a cyborg thing.  And apparently in the manga Togusa is a fully cyborg like all the others.  Which is surprising to me since it seems like such an integral part of his character.

Besides, having a cyberbrain makes someone more a cyborg than anything else, in my view.  It's your freaking brain, lol.

Solid State Society?

Yeah. And yeah I forgot about the regular food thing, further proof that like we'd always known he's at least mostly "normal".

The only thing we know for sure is that by Solid State Society he finally has a cyberbrain since he gets hacked while trying to protect his daughter.

Yeah, that's a pretty radical change.

The movie had a good reason for the change too, since I remember Motoko commented on why she picked Togusa as a natural, so it was cool that SAC and Arise both followed Oshii's lead. So it's held up in all of the anime installments.

I didn't realize it had a movie.  Or maybe forgot!  Never saw it before haha.  Probably didn't think it was an SAC movie is why.

Yep, was the last part of Kamiyama's GITS: Stand Alone Complex that they did after 2nd Gig.

Togusa and Aramaki were both eating regular food in that episode.

Oh I see.

And yet it's what came first! :S I've been wanting to read the manga for a while but never got around to it.  Looks like it's a totally different beast!  Not just showing different events but the world and characters are different!

I always wondered if it delved into the various wars and history of the world more.  We barely know anything about the war which is the reason why the refugees are in Japan in the first place!  Is it being left vague on purpose?  If so for what reason?
