Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Re-run Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Well you just got hit with a hammer of lore and backstory haha.  There's been four world wars as of 2024?  Ok then. :D

Folding oregami huh?  So the implication is that little boy in the plane crash with Motoko was Kuze?  I don't think I put that together before.  Or maybe I forgot.

Wait a minute, the Tachikoma AIs are in the NSA satellite?  Or did they just recycle the shot from this episode?

Major was there the whole time heh.

Yeah, I don't think I ever thought about it before but in a way it's kind of a weird line since they seem to have quite a bit of autonomy so as to not be government lapdogs and even have held out on very rare occasion, but perhaps they still are. Also, after 2nd Gig she kind of does leave Section 9 for a while to work on her own, until that SAC: Solid State Society movie.

Arise, the AU prequel, also brings up again that part of Motoko's terms for agreeing to Aramaki's plans for Section 9 was in regards to the amount of autonomy her team would have.

Yeah doesn't make much sense.  All I can think of is maybe they have less autonomy this season than in the last?  Did things get switched around after they faked their deaths and came back I want to say?

Yeah, they had to get re-instated at the beginning of the season.

Actually that could be it. They're probably just exaggerating since they are likely on a tighter leash than they were before. At the beginning of the season they did talk about how Kayabuki, the new Prime Minister, might keep them on a tighter leash. But Aramaki won't really let that happen in any way that hurts the team and its members as we always see.

Yup, we keeping getting more hints that that's the case ever since that ep.

Yeah. Last episode confirmed their AI are in a joint Japanese and AE satellite at the request of the Major, and not in each unit when the Tachikomas opened each other up.

So it wasn't just a standalone episode after all haha.

I thought that was just a regular satellite.  Don't remember it being a joint one.  I don't think I could see this show being lazy and not just drawing a new satellite either so you're probably right.

I want to say they didn't have as much freedom at the beginning of the season but I'm not sure.  And yeah it doesn't seem like they are being held back too much, heh.

Yup, I guess there's no proof that everything in that "flashback" happened exactly like that but the Major seemed to know some of that story as she showed at the end of that ep so at least some of it seems to be "real".

Finale hint spoiler:

And after all of these hints in these eps we get some more in the finale, watch out for her reactions when they are trapped together in the finale thinking they are going to die.

Yeah, I agree, they were in a bit of a tricky spot at the beginning of the season since they weren't an official unit anymore until they got re-instated after that hostage mission in ep 1 of 2nd Gig.

Yup, Aramaki's so damned good :D

Major wearing normal-ish clothes for once.  Can still throw down though.

Staring at her boobs lol.  I'm surprised he didn't get worse than his ear pulled.

Major as a mom.  I don't know about that.  I just thought about something.  How do cyberized people have kids?

Why is Major surprised?  I thought she saw what he did.  Or just that he left?

All those old guys rofl.

Shouldn't have said that bub.

Major will make short work of these small-timers.

That old boss is smart.

So the refugees are Vietnamese?

"Don't do anything stupid, like wander around the refugee area by yourself" lol

She already gone like Batman :D

I couldn't tell if she was supposed to have already been gone or not.  Wouldn't make sense to leave before he got finished talking since she might miss out on some valuable information.

Though if so, to be fair, he wasn't paying attention, haha.

Yeah, I guess so, that was really cool.

Looks like they cut the Rick and Morty hour instead

Wow...thank god.

I didn't really think about it but last year I think they cut Toonami.

I think she left right after that last useful line when he started babbling, which she probably assumed was coming or something lol :D

I just love that she left like Batman while he was still going on lol.

Yeah LOL, he just kept talking and talking and didn't even notice lol

At least Gordon usually turns around to see he's already gone! :D
