I love having two weekdays in a row off

Doesn't really matter much either way to me anymore. I've worked so many different types of jobs with contrasting

schedules that I've come to the only logical conclusion. Work sucks period.

to be fair i hated when i had two non-consecutive days off in a week. like i could go somewhere but never far enough where i would be tired the next day. 8-5 has its downsides, but at least it's consistent

hey we need you to come in for third shift mandatory overtime now

Third shift started almost an hour ago and they can't mandate me if I'm not already on the clock. Sometimes they call on my days off to see if I want to volunteer but I never even answer because fuck that shit. Sometimes I'll try to go in for first shift in days I'm already scheduled or will volunteer for third after my shift if I need the hours and am not super tired already, but fuck going in on my days off.

That's true if I could just like, win the lottery that would be cool.

i think i've only ever been asked to work on a day off a handful of times back when i was retail. being salary also has its advantages and disadvantages like i'm never technically "off the clock" but i can count on one hand how many times i've had to work a weekend or after 5

I understand that I guess, but I try not to travel out of state or in my case across the country of Texas

with a few days off even. I've done it before, and I actually got to enjoy a little bit of sight-seeing/

bullshitting or whatever, but neither one nor two days is enough time to have an enjoyable roadtrip

imo. Best thing to do is grab some friends, hit a local bar or pub or whatever you got, have a house party,

or just enjoy some alone time idk..

Are u "on-call" at ur job 24/7? I don't know if I could do something like that even if I was salaried.

At my last job I was what I guess would be considered "salaried hourly". I had to clock in and out on time and was considered hourly for payroll purposes but if I went over one day I had to leave early the next day. We weren't allowed to go over 40 a week. Like my managers would talk to us about it if we did and would usually check our time sheets towards the end of each pay period to let us know if we were short/over. That was annoying.

I liked it because you could get things done like go to the bank or dentist - but forget a social life. Id rather have weekends off. More time with friends and kid.

Who needs a social life.

I like it because if I want to go shopping or out to eat or something, everything is less crowded.

no i'm not on call. if there's something major going on and i need to be there then i'll be there. but there's no rotating list or a schedule, it's only when i feel that i need to actually be the one doing the work. there's only one person at my job who has my phone number

A social life is possible no matter your days off.  Of course, most of the people I hang out with are either retired or have really flexible work schedules.
