So that girl is Chinese? Alice's voice is a little annoying, but not nearly as much as Erina. I can't pin it down. She sounds carefree but a little snooty, and almost drunk? Eh, maybe I'm just tired. Still, I can't tell if this is a 90s-early 2000s dub or a gag dub, and what Sentai's intent. I mean I seriously thought the southern accent thing was phased out a long time ago. Though Funi just did it in Dr. Stone, at least that character was American, and not a "Japanese yokel." Did Erina's parents die of food poisoning by an evil chef or something? All we've seen is grandpa. Didn't know this hunter girl was so good. And she likes oranges... pretty close to Nami's tangerines. I swear this guy's voice sounds worse when he's thin. Sounds really weird. Making noodles like that sounds like a pain in the ass. I don't know how you would even do that. Nao losing it even more lmao. Really stretching these metaphors for these food visions... less and less and fan service ones too. Meat Meat in the bumps. You'd have to eat that dish IMMEDIATELY after it was made then. And who was the scientist cook on TV? Foigras again ugh. A bunch of redneck fishermen. Fish liver? Yuck. 88! Nice! A dish reminding of her home. Oh my god her mom's voice. Knocked that girl out of it. Why is she calling Megumi a princess? If anyone is a princess it's Erina. Eh... another set of judges and emcee? And that bitch is giving everyone zeroes?!

fire force Fire Force Episode 19 Discussion!!
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
You seriously put Rekka in the bump, Demarco?! And for the intro bump too! Why are you using OLD CLIPS, DeMarco? And of such an obnoxious and poorly written character! We've tried to forget about him! Learned a bit more about the backstory of this world with this week's opening narration. So you just made up this Nether place this episode and their base's location which is in this Nether place was determined off-screen. Ok. Why is Obi pronouncing Licht's name like that? The underground is forbidden by the church because the sun never touches it haha. Uhh even after that explanation it still feels like the base was found too easily with poor explanation. Why aren't they getting people like Benimaru, Hibana and Karim to help with this mission? And earth quakes have been happening and more frequently apparently. I wish I had a dream about Iris like that LOL. Haha Shinra reacting to Iris in the matchbox. Oh, so the church only let Company 8 go down there. Again with the fakes crap? And fog? Now they're all separated? SIGH. That is obviously a fake, Iris! Tamaki tripped and all her clothes fell off?! Assault is going after Tamaki and Iris?! Maki afraid of being alone and glad they showed up and aren't ghosts LOL. Uh Flail you know you have women on your team too? Nice blocking of those flames and nice ass-kicking by Maki here. Using her own fists and feet, and the Tekkyo! That was awesome! And Flail is done! "Temporarily a part of the 8th." We all know she's going to be a permanent member! Shinra trolling Tamaki? Nice dodging and blocking of those bullets by Tamaki. She also straight up tanked some! She's almost reached Assault... NOW LUCKY LECHER LURE HAPPENS?! And now they are beating him to a bloody pulp?! What was pixellated? The rats LOL. So much for Assault wiping out the entire 8th. Yup don't think that battle would shut up Shinra LOL. But Iris is depending on Tamaki. Aww. Nice animation! And nice showing by the girls this ep! Okay I just checked the episode on Funimation Now and nothing was edited from the Tamaki moments, and the pixelation was an intentional joke, like I suspected. I still want to know what was pixelated! Are those cartoon head lumps or spilled blood and brain matter?! Well, he was still groaning, so probably not beaten THAT badly. I will go with the former. And I swear there was some meta stuff going on with the girls in this episode. We knew Maki is badass, but she hasn't got to do much in a while. So seeing her get upgrades from Vulcan and kick ass here was great. And she whooped a misogynist, to boot. Fans have been critical of Tamaki's usage in the series. The endless Lucky Lecher Lure stuff and not having a good showing in fights. So here the author is like... okay I will give you a serious ass-kicking moment for Tamaki! Except he brought back Lucky Lecher Lure with a fury, and part of her victory even involved it! But I still thought it was funny and pretty great that Tamaki and Iris took out "THE SLAUGHTERER ASSAULT that was going to take out the whole company by himself!" like that. And Tamaki did have some good moves in the fight. It's better than before at least! -
dr. stone Dr. Stone Episode 16 Discussion!!!

Why doesn't this village have writing? Those Hundred Tales could change a lot over the generations. And how did it happen that nobody managed to say the name of the village in front of Senku before now? Ishigami Byakuya?! This is too many Byakuyas! It was bad enough that InuYasha created a character named that after we already had Byakuya Kuchiki! What was the point of hiding his face? I guess JAXA must do their astronaut selection different from NASA. I think NASA recruits more than once every 10 years, and maybe someone would get disqualified for failing a clothed swimming test, I dunno. I figure that test is for the spacecraft crash lands in the ocean and they have to swim to save themselves? Senku was up to scientific shenanigans at quite an early age, heh. I see that they are going with space as it currently is. No new spacecraft or anything. When is this supposed to take place? Well, now we know who Kohaku and Ruri got their genes from. Hmm, I had read and I thought also heard in a documentary that boobs get bigger in space, but now I can't find it! I was confused there for a minute. I thought at first Lillian was an astronaut pretending to be a singer, but she is actually a singer, but put on a diva act? But the accent is real? 😧 Well, better than the southern accents in Food Wars, and better than how Erina talks. Yakov looks like Jamie from Mythbusters. What is up with Talia's lips? Hmm, Connie looks like she is of Chinese descent. And she went from staffer at NASA to astronaut? Oh yeah, Ginro looks like he is descended from Shamil. Why is Lillian the only one's hair effected by lack of gravity? Yakov and Talia's hair are short, Yakov has a mohawk even. But Byakuya and Shamil hair should be up, and while Connie has her hair in pigtails, I don't think the hair framing her face would stay in place like that. I thought NASA instituted a rule against sending couples into space. Maybe the Russians are looser with that. Wow, she actually sang. I assume this was dubbed? Not bad. She's popular the world over! Nice use of the real animated NASA streaming logo there. If that Kaljinyu guy was still here, he'd be bitching up a storm right now. I remember he dropped Casshern after they used that insert song a third time LOL. Well, Lillian sounds like a great person. And looks like she grew up poor too. Send your son a message. 😧 Wow, all those swallows turned to stone. Didn't realize it was that widespread or that Senku knew so much about it already. Nutrient jelly... come on dude. The ramen is wondrous! Ah hell... the whole Earth?! Looks like the blast started in North America, or maybe the North Pole? I like that they actually referenced Twitter and not some made up thing. Yeah it looks like these last 6 people have to save the 7 billion others?! Kent Williams played Senku's dad. How fitting, considering Alphonse, and his dad. Wait, Kent Williams just played Father, but not Hohenheim? And Scott McNeil played Hohenheim in the original series. I'd re-watch the dub of either FMA series, but, ya know. But, listening to the clips on Behind the Voice Actors, John Swasey as Hohenheim sounds JUST like Kent Williams as Father! Weird! And well, Aaron Dismuke only played Alphonse in the original series, anyway. Oh well. I also didn't remember that he played Supreme Kai. He must alter his voice a lot for that character. -
one punch man ONE PUNCH MAN EPISODE #22 (210) DISCUSSION!!

Lul the one thing Saitama can't win at. Cute character King is playing as though. What does King's shirt say? Maybe they figured you'd have trouble using it. Since it has buttons and everything. The Monsters want peace? Really? Ah of course he was full of shit! But shot that dude dead! That's graphic for this show! Steel is no match for a hardened body. Calmed by Blackluster's muscles. So... that is the monsters plan. Well, pretty good plan for a monster I guess. Ah hell roachman eaten! Dominatrix bitch spared. That's right motherfucker, Goketsu is dead. Don't expect your plans to happen so easily, or at all! Death Gatling or whatever his name is... another retro anime looking guy heh. GARO THINKS HE WAS HIT BY KING LOL. Good lord it's the ancient Clapper commercial! And now Vader is involved?! Metal Knight isn't just an asshole, he's a selfish sociopathic scumbag! Saitama just killed all those would be monster recruits LOL. Damn it kid don't let Biff have that almanac! All these heroes and with the perfect skills for the job, and Garo is beat up. This may be it for him. -
I didn't realize which one of those aliens this was because they already killed one of them didn't they? They all look the same and all have the same voice. So is this the main boss one? How did Sara disable his gun? How did she blow up those ships? Did they eject him to his death or just marooned him? So the Vindication is gone and I guess the new home of Toonami is this station. That's a shame. It was a cool name and a cool station. And I guess we aren't seeing Orange Sherbert Sonny Strait voiced Tom ever again, or the worm Georgia. But at least they didn't kill Tom off and replace him with the annoying Orange Sherbert Tom! But is that planet below them inhabited? Are those city lights, or is it lava?

mha My Hero Academia Episode #69 (406) Discussion
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Well, I finally just got finished watching all the shows. Now that I think about it looks like MHA is another dub using surnames the same as the sub would. I noticed with the little name tags on the train. Most characters are called by their last names, with a few exceptions. I don't think I have ever seen/heard Kirishima's first name until now. And I STILL need a spoiler free character guide for this show. I can never remember everyone's names! May be stretching it here but was the walk across the street a Beatles reference? How many of these heroes were introduced just to be cannon fodder? Kirishima has no idea what's going on. I barely do either. I had to rewind the conversation in a few places! Nejire appreciates his hardening quirk lul. Uhh that technobabble about how Erasurehead's quirk works and the quirk canceling bullets didn't really make sense. Maybe don't try to get scientific with this stuff, show. I had a feeling Ari was being "used" in some way by the Yakuza group. The hints were there. And we don't even know if Ari is Overhaul's actual daughter. She could be some random child he kidnapped. SEE, MIRIO AND NIGHT EYE! YOU ASSHOLES SHOULD HAVE LET DEKU SAVE ARI THEN AND THERE! FUCK BOTH OF YOU! Oh yeah, Night Eye, I'm sure you're real frustrated, asshole. A Michael Bay Netflix exclusive with Ryan Reynolds being annoying? EHHHH UUGGHHHH they put fucking Night Eye in the bumps! Then why did Mr. Master Criminal have Ari out in public in the first place? Actually, Night Eye, All Might would have rescued Ari right when he saw her, so this current situation would have never arisen. So he sees their entire life for an hour? I thought before he just said he could see whatever Deku was going to do for an hour. So did he see all of Deku's future? Or can he choose to stop watching the film? Okay the foresight power is fucking dumb and shouldn't have been introduced in the first place, trying to claim what is shown is "unavoidable" is even stupider. Again if it wasn't for Night Eye's assholery and Mirio's idiocy in following him this would not be an issue. I mean I guess the Yakuza group would still need to he taken down, but Ari would be being abused the whole time. The whole concept of this arc is irksome. That "madness" is called being a good person and being an actual hero, Night Eye. Night Eye should be the one dying a horrible painful death, not All Might. LEAVE HER ALONE YOU FUCKER! SHE'S NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THAT HER ENTIRE LIFE?! By the way, I think even Oda would have told Horikoshi to tone it down here. Robin had a ridiculously over-the-top tragic backstory, but at least her life was happy up to a certain point! Ari's entire life has been hell! -
Andi Gutierrez was beautiful tonight! ❤️ Anybody know who that pretty girl named Emily is people were asking for autographs? I didn't see them interview her and I can't think of anyone named Emily involved with Star Wars. Frank Oz said he isn't in the movie? 😧 I hope that was just misinformation by him? I mean I suppose Force Ghosts have never appeared before someone who didn't know them in life, but we don't really know if that's by choice on their part or some restriction they have. I'm still curious if only Luke could see Obi-wan, Yoda, and Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi. The Tri-Wing that Doug Chiang developed with Porsche looked awesome. He said he hopes to have it appear in future Star Wars content, but I'm pretty sure we see it in one of the trailers with the Falcon and other ships flying past the Star Destroyers? Here is an article on it. https://www.slashgear.com/porsche-tri-wing-s-91x-pegasus-is-a-star-wars-ship-you-wont-see-in-the-film-15603346/ Kathleen Kennedy has a twin sister?! A bit of a mind fuck there when I saw two of them on the screen! What was Keri Russell wearing? She still looked good though, even as odd as her outfit was. Looked like a hair bow or scrunchie or something. If actors like her are making sound effects when they fire blasters, do they just edit that out somehow? I still can't get over how different John Boyega's actual voice sounds from his Finn voice. I thought he was American back when I saw TFA! He fooled us all! Also black people with British accents still sounds weird to me. Oscar Isaac hinted that Poe has a complicated backstory and maybe isn't as clean cut a guy as we think. Interesting. A Twitter poll for favorite droid had R2-D2 with 65%, BB-8 with 23%, 3PO with 10% and D-O with 2%, if I recall correctly. Don't know why they put D-O in there when no one has seen him in the movie yet. I do like his super primitive looking design though. But ouch 3PO with only 10%! Got some nice looks at the props tonight. Jannah has a really cool primitive looking looking blaster that looks like a blunderbuss or something. And Lando has a cane that looks like Cloud City.

Rise of Skywalker red carpet is coming up. It said it was starting in 10 minutes, then it said an hour! >=[ That music is AWESOME though! John Williams has OUTDONE himself!

lupin iii Lupin the 3rd OVA: 'Is Lupin Still Burning?' Discussion
ben0119 replied to 3ngag3's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Oh ok, so everything but part 1 and past episode 79 of part 2 got dubbed of the actual series? I looked into Lupin last week I think and a LOT of stuff has been made. There's been a whole bunch of TV specials. Also I think some of the movies and stuff use different dub VAs? So only part 2 is on streaming out of the old shows? I can look more later I guess. But there sure is a lot of Lupin content out there! -

Is all of the old Lupin dubbed, or even available to watch stateside? The completionist in me makes me wants to go back to it, if I get the chance and the spare time. And apparently Adult Swim did not even air all of the Part 2 series? -

I see Black Clover on my recordings and it's just 30 minutes. But I look at the guide now and it shows it was 30 minutes, and shows JoJo in the schedule after it... but JoJo did not record. T__T What the hell, SuddenLink! I can't record if a show that isn't listed! Before it showed an hour long Black Clover and no JoJo when I set up the recordings! I suppose I could have manually recorded a single block of time for all the shows. But I was trying to just make sure the stuff I really cared about got recorded, since I don't have a lot of space. (I didn't record Food Wars.) I guess I'll have to watch JoJo via On-Demand tomorrow or whenever they put it on there. -

12 minutes into the Lupin OVA? That's too far for me to rewind and catch back up during commercials. And well, it's 18 minutes in now after that commercial. I might as well just start watching from the beginning of my recordings at this point. I DIDN'T THINK I'D BE GETTING HOME THIS LATE! We ate at Top Knotch, the burger place in Dazed and Confused. Then we did the cake and presents, then the young and able-bodied among us walked through the Zilker Lights... park is lit up with lights and displays. Got in there at 9:50, and got back to my cousin's house at midnight or so? Stayed a while after that and then we had to drive back home. And something did not agree with me. So I didn't even eat any cake, and I forgot my pieces there! Was Nao working in the back at that burger joint?! Anyway I hope the shows have been good tonight and everyone has been having a good time. Why was Black Clover an hour long block on the DVR? Was it a special double length episode, or was it some kind of fuckery related to the Lupin OVA? -
They are giving up the near simuldub status of their shows with these foolish marathons!

It would be a lot better than what we are getting! And I gotta' say, the fan service aspect has been overblown, and the cooking technobabble is wearing thin and losing its effect! -
Usually something you haven't seen before though. Well, not always, I suppose. But it's still something you choose to watch. I don't usually want to re-watch a bunch of episodes of something I only recently just saw. Especially in this day and age when we barely have enough time to watch, read, and play everything we want because we have so much entertainment! You sure can't get bored anymore these days.

Stopped by Which Wich and got an Italian sandwich for supper tonight. People draw on the sandwich bags and the restaurant hangs them up. More proof that MHA is mainstream confirmed! We have Deku, All Might, Bakugo, Froppy, and Tokoyami represented, and they weren't all drawn by the same person. There's also some other anime characters, but I don't know what Yui that is and I don't recognize the character talking about developing a bond in the army. Oh, it's my cousin's birthday tomorrow, so I might miss some of the first shows, but hopefully not. We'll see. -
Black Clover Page 98 Discussion Last time on Black Clover, more and more elf possessors made themselves known. What's worse, Asta's anti-magic can't undo the possessions! Mereoleona has intentionally isolated herself from Asta and Zora, facing off against a powered up Ryha, possessed Rill, and several other possessed mages. Has she underestimated the elves and overestimated herself?! Meanwhile, Noelle is being forced to fight a possessed Luck. The elves have also expressed their goal to kill every human they come across. Can things possibly get any worse?! How will the Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights deal with this? Find out tonight, on Black Clover, on Toonami!

dr.stone Dr. Stone Episode 15 Discussion!!
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Oh I see. Yeah it does make it less confusing for American audiences. But then we had stuff like Ginjo. I believe he changed from calling Ichigo by his first name to last name or something when he went back to his evil self after getting cut by Tsukishima and that was supposed to be a hint to that? But up until then the show hadn't maintained the concept. Certain characters would also call Ichigo either by his first or last name. If I recall correctly, Rukia would call him Ichigo and Orihime would call him "Kurosaki-kun." It is a bit of a conundrum indeed. So then Fire Force and Dr. Stone are doing the name thing that way. Interesting. Don't know if it's a change in policy by Funimation or it's up to individual dub directors. Also funny that Goku's family name is never even said in the dub, not even the Kai dub I don't think. -

Was that his actual face? I thought it was a transformation jutsu. Well, I suppose if someone is always wearing a mask and you don't know what they look like, taking the mask off can be a disguise in itself, kind of like Vangeance and Licht. But I thought Kakashi's face was never even revealed in the actual manga/anime? It was revealed after the fact J.K. Rowling style in some Kishimoto sketch I thought? And why did Kakashi disguise himself as a seeming child predator? -
Our cable bill and internet bill is 220 dollars. The cable companies are going to put themselves out of business if they don't change their pricing and business model, and traditional TV will go down with them. It seems like they always manage to find a way to inch up the bill or jack it up by quite a bit. We had it down to 200, then they magically got it up to 220. Now SuddenLink made it to where we can't get the bill changed in their office and have to call a number. I can't afford to buy DVDs and Blu-Rays of stuff all the time like I used to. Hell, I still haven't replaced all my VHS collection with DVDs, much less replaced the DVDs with blu-rays. At this point I just hold onto the VHS now so I remember that I own and like x movie and can plan to replace it with a DVD or Blu-Ray or watch it via streaming or something else. So streaming services are pretty good value for me. All-digital is a nightmare though. Because then you don't own anything and then shows and movies can disappear into history. There definitely still does need to be physical media going forward. That said, if I really, really like a show, I'd probably try to buy it on physical media. Though that can get expensive with a long-runner. But SAO was short when I initially considered buying it, then I saw Aniplex wants an arm, leg, and kidney for their stuff. Don't they realize they'd make more money selling more copies for less, than a few copies for a lot?
-
Some streaming services are justifiable to exist and to subscribe to. Others, not so much. Indeed, every network rushing to get its own service defeats the original purpose of Netflix and Hulu, with their huge libraries made them a great value. Disney Plus is worth it for Disney's back catalog alone, to add to that Marvel, Star Wars, Fox, and their original series they are making. Funimation is worth it due to their huge library. They have the rights to the bulk of the anime out there. And they even have SAO on there even though it is an Aniplex show? I guess they must have worked out some kind of deal. Well, I'm watching it on Funimation now since we don't have the ad-free Hulu. But CBS All Access? Not worth it just to watch Star Trek when I don't care about their other stuff. I resort to unnatural methods... one not taught by a Jedi, to watch the new Trek shows.
-
Well, that is interesting and somewhat unexpected to hear indeed. Near-dub premieres, month behind premieres, old dubs, all doing well. So maybe the streaming services don't have as much of an effect as we thought. Marathons are still an antiquated concept in this day and age, though. At least if they break up the normal schedule. And it has been proven this year that the ratings don't go down that much for holidays. I hope we stay with just a handful of marathons in 2020. Marathons for time filler in nonessential time slots like USA does with NCIS and Law & Order are fine.

Even after those two years of training and Nezuko sleeping? Plus, she got bigger when she turned into a demon, remember? Well then... moving along. Nothing to see here!
