Yeah I think it largely depended on which you were first introduced to. As a longtime manga reader when I saw that rotoscoping my reaction was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytCEuuW2_A And yeah, my eyeroll was supposed to mean EVA's dub was fine.

It should be pointed out that Outlaw Star was largely anime original though...I think. The manga might have technically started coming out earlier, but not by much though.

To be fair Gene's arc is largely based around him growing up and not being a piss ant anymore. From Hilda's chastising to the awkward night scene with Melfina. You can argue how effective his progress is by the end but, eh, still one of my favorite series either way.

Aku no Hana's source material was great. The rotoscoping art style of the "anime" was very polarizing. I land on the side that considered it unwatchable. Also looking at the actual list I've only actually watched 4 or 5 of those, though am aware of the infamous endings for a few others. SAO's hate is still exaggerated imo, and Ugly Yet Beautiful World was decent enough disappointing ending aside, but Reign? Yeah, that was dog shit best left forgotten. Oh, and including EVA's dub? :

Oh Locodol's superior no doubt, even bought Sentai's release. I think it's cute/calming/soothing enough so far though, which is all I really want from it. If the political commentary does wind up being there, that'll be extra.
