1997
My memory of this year is mostly reconstructed from old school home movies, severely warping my perspective. I was the first of my generation in the family. The first of the grandkids. The adults were excited for the excuse to get together and go on the kind of day trips adults don't have an excuse to take w/o children. Things were fairly prosperous, and if they weren't how would I know I was a child. Easter. Christmas. Zoo. Pool. Elderly friends of the family doting and offering me small gifts bc it's cute how enthusiastic a kindergartener gets over a dollar or a lollipop. Easily the most interest I've been able to generate just by existing. Add to it the fact that there's very little you can do to let anyone down at that age, and you have a recipe for a very pleasant year.
I got to ride an elephant and a camel in the same day.
