i had that happen once back in college. the only dorm close to mine was the all girls dorm and basically had to beg them to let me use it so i didn't have to go on a bus with wet clothes -

the only few good reasons for not doing gas is either A: electricity is cheaper than gas in your area or B: you have small children and don't want the possibility of them playing around an open flame. it's easier to cook using gas, food cooks more evenly, and you can use your stove when the power is out. if there's really a gas leak you have bigger problems than your stove.
