  5. we've given it the sweet sound of capitalism
  6. this thread inspired me to go grab the most alcoholic beverage in my house
  7. we've automated the test cases and they've all passed. we've already got a level 0 estimate of the implementation phase and received CRE sign off on the RTO if we need to roll back to ensure that we don't go below four nines.
  8. WE NEED TO GET THIS IN PROD NOW BEFORE THE END OF THE SPRINT. well what do you know, we do speak the same language. 😆
  9. hey can you ping the PM to see if he's available? we need him to jump on or we'll have to reschedule to 11:30. our EMEA partners are also having connection issues
  10. hey thanks for hopping on my webex in such short notice. sorry for the ad-hoc meeting, but we're close to not meeting our deliverables in time for Q3 close. can everyone see my screen? ok, please put yourselves on mute. we need to talk about how we want to circle back with the business to determine why we're seeing scope creep.

  12. yeah i also can't really talk about what i do too much either so i get it. i am curious to see what the scope of being "effective" entails. our scope can be subjective based upon what it is that you've been tasked with. there's a larger goal of course, but your goal is usually a much smaller piece of that. you can go above it to a certain extent, but usually only so much without going across LOBs
  13. also @Ginguy i didn't know you were in management. i thought you did political consulting related work. actually i'm curious, without telling too much, what ARE the goals in political consulting anyway. getting a certain number of donations from big donors pledged and making sure they're happy?
  14. i'm trying to have a conversation with the man, not throw stones at his character. you're not helping
  15. you say that and yet i've seen at least one department in the past year that got cut because they couldn't retain their people because the director and SVP were too demanding. and, for the record, i've never gotten a rating below "above and beyond" to clarify when I say department, the director and SVP pretty much made up the entire department after some point. everyone else except for one or two other people bailed
  16. our industries are different. i'm not sure what it is exactly that you do, but from what i've gathered you work in some banking related capacity where there's likely some sort of monetary metric. we don't have that sort of metric, and as "above and beyond" is incredibly subjective there's no way to be "above and beyond at all times". having such a requirement is a great way to have your team filled with a bunch of contractors where you get to chase people down all day because no FTEs want to work for you.
  17. i'm not going to bat for her behavior on here, but you'd be surprised how many people goof off for hours. maybe it's different in big business than it is at a call center, but a good boss doesn't care what you do for the most part as long as the work gets done. but yeah, no one really needs a reason to fire anyone unless you're union or something. that being said, i don't think i've ever seen a case where someone was really fired for no reason. i've seen good people get laid off, but i don't think i've seen someone good get singled out and fired without some sort of documentation (performance, tardiness, whatever)
  18. as long as they have something documented which states that it's not for a protected reason then i don't really see how. we've had people go out on disability for a month at my place and then stay for a long time.
  19. an employer doesn't need an excuse to fire you in at at-will state, which SC is
  20. isn't that leave unpaid though? i'm exempt from FMLA, but if i wasn't i'd rather use up my PTO first
