reading about protests now. like - massive anti-trump protests and student walkouts. LA, Chicago, NY and many many other cities. Perhaps strangely, I did not expect this either.

I think - to me the clearest message from this is the populist thing. I think the country went populist and Trump was the only real choice there. Clinton is an established and experienced politician, this was just not the election cycle for that. I don't think anyone was quite prepared for just how much this was not the cycle for that. Sanders was the populist on the Dem side, but there are too many pragmatists amongst the Dems to have put him over. However, the populism streak on the Republican side runs much deeper, and put Trump over even with a variety of other choices, including Evangelicals, experienced politicians, and Republican standard bearers. Repubs went overwhelmingly for the wildcard populist. Dems also did that, just not in large enough numbers. But nationally, the country swung populist. Had there been some sort of "populist party" in the mix or 3rd party candidate that reflected those views in a focused and credible way, it may have shaved some votes off Trump. But all the alternative choices were either established 3rd parties or republicans/conservatives running as an alternative to Trump. People didn't want an alternative to Trump. They wanted Trump. They wanted an outsider. They wanted somebody who wasn't going to hit the White House understanding how things worked. They wanted somebody who was going to hit the White House not giving a shit about how things worked. Not sure that Trump will end up governing that way. I mean, it looks like he'll build his cabinets just like everybody else has in the past, and seems to be positioning himself back with his party. He also has a history of almost constantly either not being entirely truthful, of flip flopping on issues. So we'll see. But I think part of why Trump was elected was he threw molotov cocktails everywhere. At the establishment, at his own party, at his opponent, everywhere.

1. this ain't the asmb (for about the 90th time) 2. you're basically making incorrect assumptions about board traffic on the ASMB based on your personal biases, rather than actual facts/knowledge. More like "I see A, and I see B, and I want it to be C, therefor it is C" type thing. The traffic decline isn't even a particularly layered or intricate thing to understand: traffic decreased as they gradually stopped mentioning, advertising, and then ultimately even linking, the board. 3. This board was originally JUST the news sections (along with a few others that will be brought out as they are ready and as we progress). I added general stuff for you guys. basically, I don't mind being generous, but I draw the line at basically upending anything/everything I want to accomplish with my message board to accommodate people who want it to transform into something else that it was never intended to be. So have fun, post and hang out. And I will do what I can to make folks feel at home. But do not expect me to axe all the stuff I want to do just so that we can transform this board into the ASMB. Cause, just letting ya know, that ain't gonna happen.

got everybody so far. as far as ranks go: I'll be adding more holiday ranks we'll be doing custom ranks for contest prizes and stuff like that the basic rank system will also be messed with more ranks will be added as people reach the upper levels of the current ranks.

depressing night to say the least, made less so by you guys and your - stupid - posts. which sort of make me feel a little better. so tomorrow it's back to work (hurrblehy) as we move into winter and coldness. what a bleak bleak world it has suddenly become. I dono what's going on anymore except that everything is dim and drab and depressing. might as well be a Bergman film. seeya tamorra.

From the ASMB? or from the Halloween ranks on the other board? Halloween ranks will be back next year. And we will possibly be doing special rank contests in future.

The only thing I'd merge back would be the General Discussion folders. this ain't the ASMB. This is a board that was initially designed for another purpose entirely. While I don't mind, especially given the circumstances, giving ASMBers a homey spot to hang out, I'm not going to scrap my own plans and make it ASMB II.
