hey so finally got around to misaka, who's been bugging me a lot for an expanded role. took me awhile to set it up because it has a bit to do with a phase we're not quite at yet with the board. but basically misaka will be helping us keep track of board info (like with the rank thread) and eventually posting a daily thing in the announcements folder that tells what all happened on the board that day. eventually we'll be using those daily posts as a central linkpoint to advertise board more. but we're not there yet. we have a bit more to do before we toss the doors open to attempt to bring in more people. that's not to say you shouldn't continue to feel free to invite friends and comrades if you want. But I'm not going to start attempting to get the word out on a larger scale than word of mouth til we're more ready for that.

I think we're pretty close to a server upgrade.

just watched the first episode. had pretty low expectations (cuz TruTV) but it was really super fucking hilarious. this is the season 1 trailer:

they both feel kinda slow n easy to me. but at this stage we're not looking for traffic. At least not til the design gets hammered out. which will probably take me awhile. you might have just noticed the "users online today" thing, which is a recent addition to this board, but was always part of the Proboard. So - like at one time, when you logged onto this board, all you saw was who was online right now. But now you see that, but you also see all the users that logged in within the last 24 hours. So it looks busier maybe. the most users ever online was on this board. So this board has, at least spike-wise, been the higher traffic of the two. Also there was only 1 Toonami discussion on the other board. that board has a much better design. And I think design encourages posting. But this board has more features and allows more control, including actual ability to keep the posts/data. so it pretty much had to be done. eventually it's my goal to have this place look more like that place. The issues being - it's weird, but this current theme is the only one that's compatible with everything we need modification-wise. But it's kinda ugly and sucky. But it was necessary to find that one compatible theme so that I can begin looking at changing the appearance of it. So step one - finding a theme that actually works with everything, is successful. We found one (which ain't easy). Step two will then be to alter the appearance of this theme to, as closely as possible, resemble theme of the other board. And that will probably take awhile.

I will check into password recovery. and maybe think of a system where - like maybe a section of the board where guests can post - so even if somebody can't log in, they can post and ask for a password reset.

I had my first one on Tuesday, I'm having leftovers right now and I'm having another one this weekend. It's like every year I forget what it's like to be absolutely stuffed. and then for - like 1-3 days or so (depending on what's going on that year) I'm utterly stuffed.

in terms of mods, Dark Don and Curve are the only themes that everything works in. I think Curve looks awful. And Dark Don annoys me too. But that's the one I use because I need to see everything. will be working on the look of the DD theme as we go. My goal is for it ultimately to look more like the Proboard looked. We actually have a lot more stuff on SMF. But there was a simplicity to the look of the Proboards forum that I would love to recapture. You'd think somebody could make a goddamn black and white board theme that wasn't full of stupid corners and odd visual choices. But pretty much all of them have one or two things that just stick out like sore thumbs and are like "wtf did you do that for?". Design is often about - like creating something that people like to use or want to use, not necessarily something people want to look at and go "hey look at that pretty button image" or that kinda thing. The Proboard theme design had that. Sort of fun, light and functional. There wasn't anything you could really point to and go "hey I like how that looks" but just the overall look and functionality of the design made it fun to log in and use. I'm trying to get this theme to that place.

Squids did well from the get go. It had a tiny moment of controversy when Lazzo ran the pencil testy version as one of the pranks. which was actually kind of cool, but people didn't seem to get that it was roughs/pencil animation tests. They seemed to think it was what the actual show was going to look like. but when the pilot aired, it did well. And the show hasn't particularly faltered since. also Squids hasn't really ever been "pushed". Usually it just ran in its slot. And then I guess for awhile a loooong time into the show, it began running nightly w/ATHF. But never really pushed in the same sense as ATHF, Fox licenses, or some of the other shows

none of that has changed from what it was before. so - dunno what to tell you about those things.

that is why I am trying to focus on one theme/skin for the board. It's awesome that people want other skins and stuff, but all the mods don't work on all the themes. so - unless you are using the default theme (dark don) or curve (which is terrible), you won't be able to see or use all the board's features. I have been doing a lot of research and poking around, and I think I can possibly change up the Dark Don theme to look more like the other themes, but it will take me awhile to get it right and I don't have a ton of time to work on it til the weekend.
