  1. Incredible.
  2. Thanks! And yeah, it's been equal turns brutal and beautiful, like when I deleted 20 pages that took two weeks to write, but replaced it with something much more promising and fun. I spent so long trying to fix the pages themselves, convinced I could salvage it. But even though deleting it was difficult, because I'd worked so hard not to do that to myself anymore in rough draft stage, it was also very liberating. <3
  3. and with still about a month left before I actually have to turn it in to my adviser. Of course, I have to complete the full story itself, but I imagine that's another 100 pages or so. Still, I've never written so many pages of a novel before, and never felt so uplifted and dedicated to it, and progress is progress, so I'm very excited!
  4. I hear Shogun is very ham-handed with its integration of Japanese, but I think we all need a good, occasional eyeroll.
  5. That could be a chant! HGH? Piss in face!
  6. It's certainly not everyday these things happen but they're always big in terms of turns of events. Like Tony Martin winning stage five in 2015 and breaking his collarbone in stage six. The rest is waiting and watching for subtle mind games, racing strategy and all-out displays of strength.
  7. Accomplishing a sense of bliss and joy ain't nothing to shake your head at.
  8. Fair, though TdF is brutal as fuck. Cyclist pileups, urine in people's faces, people finishing the remainder of a stage with broken bones, people getting up from a 25 mph crash and getting patched up by a medic hanging out of a moving car. It's wild.
  9. Nah, I ain't justifying it. Providing an explanation.
  10. Well I live here, and it's one of the reasons I came back after grad school.
  11. Because he's an aging cyclist overcoming a form of cancer whilst still trying to uphold the glory of winning a ~2000 mile race and to inspire a positive outlook on himself and the nature of recovery?
  12. Well, he did win that year...
  13. I feel that way about running, funny enough. My husband runs and I just can't handle going that slow for a short distance and feeling just as burned out.
  14. The closest thing I have to a thigh pic is one of my Yowamushi Pedal tattoo on my leg: It always peeks out a little at the bottom of my bib.
  15. Hopefully with less urine tossed in my face.
  16. Damn, that feeling when you make it though... All the adrenaline burned from your body, and you're at peace, and you can barely walk, and your digestive system returns to a normal routine. It's incredible.
  17. I used to do century rides on a regular basis too, with one of those routes including cycling up and down a mountain. The major hindrance here is my 2 years in new Hampshire caused me to slack, so I'm picking up back near the beginning.
  18. About 10 percent manage to do it each year. I've also known people who have done more than that in a day, and everesting is its own absurd challenge.
  19. Provided directions, and it's one of the largest cycling events in the nation, so the route is well posted along the way.
  20. Meeting up is some wicked additional incentive; I'd love that!
