  1. I can’t believe the audacity they have to actually make that dude in the homeless camp that Doug talked to, looked at, and promptly disregard as not important despite looking exactly like Skinner, to actually have been Skinner the whole time. Doug gets an F- on detective work
  2. So this has been bugging me, sometimes AS runs a generic promo for Lazarus, rather than the episode specific one. It goes something like, “this team could save the world, if they could stop trying to kill each other first”. But like, not one time in this entire series have I felt anyone on the team held any animosity towards the others. Worst was Axel being a little salty about being caught, but he was cool with the crew almost immediately. Really, all of them get along quite well. Did AS even watch their own show?
  3. Lazarus is mid ”Zaslav wanted to cancel it” Lazarus is the greatest anime ever created because I was told Zaslav was against it. That should about sum it up. I’m noticing Colt is not on the cast list, an intentional omission so no hard questions would be asked?
  4. 99.9% chance it’s gonna be Daima. No originals are ready, we would have heard something by now. Get Jiro was shown to still be in the production stages at Annecy, and we haven’t heard a thing about Rooster Fighter or MAWS S3 since their original announcements. And I don’t think there are any acquired titles they would place above a Dragonball show. So most likely scenario is our current lineup slides up 30 minutes, and Lazarus reruns get parked at 3am.
  5. Well, at least we aren’t seeing the usual Dragonball nosedive between shows. Seems my theory was right that DBZ fans aren’t gonna turn out for something more reminiscent of DB. Will be interesting seeing if anything changes when it takes over as the lead show next month.
  6. I imagine the casting for this must have been hilarious. ”Ok miss, we are gonna have you start at the top of these stairs and run down, and while you do, we will get a recording from this seismograph. If you can make it move, you got the part.”
  7. Schedule goes out to July 8th and it’s KotH all the way. It’s done.
  8. Whoever was in charge of action direction for this show should never be employed again. First off, we have Axel fall at LEAST ten stories off a bridge, onto a moving tanker trucker, that judging by the interior shot, was doing at least 70-80mph. Our protagonist doesn’t even drop an “oof” from this bone shattering impact, he just rolls it off. Then, our assassin character apparently input the cheat code for the infinite grenade jacket. But that’s not the best part. After knocking Axel into another (easily fatal but nowhere near as silly as the first) fall, somehow our assassin gets down, gets on the boat, gets IN the boat, all in the time it took Axel to stand back up. I hope whatever meager check Watanabe got from AS was worth this major stain on his career. And we ain’t even done yet.
  9. They didn’t. Tax write offs only affect the US market. So a shows reruns can still persist on in non US markets while being written off. In order to do a reboot, they would have to fully pay off the tax break they got on the show in the mid 00s. If they bought it back, it would be available to CN (or let’s be real, AS would get it just like Jack) to air and stream. Not saying it’s impossible, but I think this article is oversimplifying things a little and a reboot wasn’t as close as they are implying it was.
  10. I don’t care about taking the 5th off, but I hope we don’t have to do another marathon for the second half of Lazarus.
  11. Starting on June 28th, the online schedule indicates the Checkered Past hour on weekdays is being replaced by King of the Hill. A month and a half short of a 2 year run. It was fun while it lasted. Any final thoughts on this block?
  12. As expected, there will be a marathon on 7/5 As not expected, they are going with MAWS S2
  13. Yamaji did have that weird dual eye that I don’t believe was ever touched on beyond revealing he had it. I suppose that could be an ayy lmao pivot. I feel like a lot of the hate towards the gear is centered on it being where most of the mediocre CGI is found, rather than the concept of the gear itself. We went from cool 2d fights to CGI sloppa. If the gear was less CGI (no way some of those parts like the fade guys snakes could have been 2d) then the hate wouldn’t be nearly as strong.
  14. Why is it so hard for people to just adapt the material in the west? “We like this series and want to animate it” ”We are going to change a bunch of things because we don’t like them and feel the original creator was wrong”
  15. What even is there to do with the characters now? Everyone got their closure and MC ditched his ninja mech suit at the end. These are gonna feel really forced
  16. “PUSH THE BIRDCAGE PUSH HARDER” for 44 straight minutes was likely seen as skippable by most.
  17. Even if it did, the creator is so obtuse about how his story is told, it only would have covered the third game, which is regarded as filler by fans. Probably would have caused some resentment towards the series. I didn’t say anything about the block itself, just the originals. Which have been embarrassing failure after failure and a clear reason why acquired content has decreased. The only one of which I ever see any positive acclaim for is Shenmue, which just repurposed the game story into an anime. Not many areas to diverge and mess that up. If they stop making originals and go back to just licensing shows, that will be wonderful. I really thought Lazarus might have been able to break the curse, but it gets worse every week.
  18. We can only hope we will be so lucky. I suppose it’s a good sign no new ones have been announced this year, so maybe Rooster Fighter really be the end of this blight on anime history.
  19. Not too frequently. Across the year we see various televised sports events that occasionally have an event run over midnight, but it’s never the norm.
  20. Well, Rewind had a lot of mismanagement that led to its failure, primarily the lack of interest in old anime. The Saturday block is just hard to relocate. It can’t be early due to (some) of its content. Dragonball Diaper would be fine at 5pm, Bleach not so much. And we know AS would never dream of giving up primetime hours anywhere, so it would have to go somewhere post midnight. Sunday-Thursday is a bust due to people working. Not gonna get people staying up till 3am when they gotta be up at 6am. That really only leaves Friday at midnight as an alternative. Maybe it could work but it would take months for people to form new habits and actually tune in regularly. Luckily I don’t see them landing UFC, so this is likely just a hypothetical scenario we never have to actually worry about.
  21. The info is dubious, I did all the exercises just like they said and I don’t look like this yet.
  22. I don’t think there has been a peep about Superman besides its initial confirmation of getting new seasons. Wasn’t really realistic to expect that in summer. I still stand by the team working on it anticipating its cancellation and wrapping up S2 in a mostly conclusive way. So they probably have a lot of legwork still to do.
  23. Being realistic, is Toonami REALLY a competitor to AEW? Pretty much since the block came back, wrestling has always been cited as direct competition, but I have never really believed it. And it this point, we are talking about a block with one show barely over 100k viewers. I can’t really see WB being a genuine competitor at the negotiating table though. Not when you have to sit next to Amazon and Netflix. And they may not have the wallet size to compare, but UFC and ESPN aren’t going down without a fight either. I know we overreact about things here often, but a day shift is something I do not think Toonami could survive. It’s got 13 year old roots on Saturday nights, you can’t just ask people to shift somewhere else.
  24. Well, Toonami news usually hits at a specific time Friday afternoon, so I’d assume not many were checking the Facebook today. Anyway, if there was any lingering doubts about the budget being blown for the year, those should be put to rest. I have to wonder though, why start this now? If they would have waited till July, it could have just taken midnight where it’s likely going regardless when Lazarus ends. They stalled for nearly 6 months straight, so I don’t see why this couldnt have waited. Especially after all those times they stalled the schedule to prevent show timeslot shifts. Bleach is probably going right back to 12:30 in July. If the issue was OP running out of episodes, they easily could have put Naruto on double duty for a few weeks. On the topic of Naruto, we are now beyond a reasonable window of expecting the Rewind shows to expire, so it seems those are gonna hang around and shit up the schedule for a full run. Unfortunate. My long standing criticism of them sacrificing the entire block just to roll out the red carpet for Dragonball mediocrity remains unphased.
