Funimation likes to add stuff to their dubs when allowed they may have added the line in just because they picked up on the subtext and wanted to turn the Implied gay storyline into a canon one with permission from the producers

name one other than Yuri on ice that has actual gay characters in it though most of the shows you're reffering to I already know of, and they don't really have gay characters....just a lot of equal opportunity nudity and fanservice

it seems like they changed much less of Doki Doki Precure than they did Smile Precure all they really did was replacing "Cure" with "Glitter" and removing every utterance of the word "Trump" from the show ::]::

a special note to any new viewers watching this show blind (if there even are any) it's not your ordinary space adventure anime, for what ever reason there is a TON of Swords and Sorcery Lord of the Rings type Mythology incorporated into the show in addition to the aliens and spaceships
