  1. If I were arranging the Toonami schedule (with the 11 PM-4 AM constraint), here's what I'd do. Each hour would even have its own theme: Hour 1: the "Heavy Hitters" Hour: 11 PM - Dragon Ball Super 11:30 - Attack On Titan Hour 2: the "Slice-of-Life-y" Hour: 12 AM - MHA 12:30 - SAO-A Hour 3: the "Old Man Anime" Hour 1 AM - Lupin Part 5 1:30 - Gundam: The Origin Hour 4: the "Parody" Hour: 2 AM - Food Wars 2:30 - Black Clover Hour 5: the "Narutoverse" Hour: 3 AM - Boruto 3:30 - Shippuden
  2. That's just shorthand for season 3, episode 17. I do the same thing for MHA or any other multi-season show, with the exception of SAO: Alicization, since each of SAO's seasons have distinctive names.
  3. That wasn't a series--it's a movie!
  4. Well, the answer turned out to be SAO-A, plus Lupin's also getting promoted, and MHA is getting DE-moted worse than any show yet on the Better Cartoon Show!
  5. Oh God, I haven't even seen the shitstorm on Twitter yet...
  6. What they should do is move those DBZ Kai reruns to 3:30 and expand the block from 10:30-4. Start with DBS, then double R&M, then double FG, then DBS, then AOT, THEN MHA.
  7. Well, I never in a million years expected this...
  8. So no one really knows anything, right? This is all just a bunch of crap, right??
  9. Oh gosh, we're not even talking about ESPN+, we're talking about MAINSTREAM ESPN. And the Main Event is going to be airing at the same time as MHA, DBS, and AOT. This won't be pretty.
  10. I dunno; I'd argue that S2 was still a "hit", but not a "smash hit". Right now, S3 is just sort of "there", riding Dragon Ball Super's coattails. It DESERVES to be a hit, though, no question. I'll bet it would do better in the ratings if the dub was delayed a week on FUNimation or something. But at LEAST Super, and therefore Toonami, won the night last week, and MHA clearly placed 3rd in total viewers, and tied with FG for 2nd in Adults 18-49: Dragon Ball Z Kai (repeat) (ADSM, 8:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.305 million viewers (#92) • 0.22 HH (#83) • 0.10 A18-49 (#75) • 0.10 A18-34 (#43) • 0.09 A25-54 (#96) Dragon Ball Super (repeat) (ADSM, 8:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.279 million viewers (#95) • 0.20 HH (#92) • 0.10 A18-49 (#75) • 0.07 A18-34 (#71) • 0.10 A25-54 (#87) Rick & Morty (repeat) (ADSM, 9:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.372 million viewers (#81) • 0.26 HH (#68) • 0.14 A18-49 (#49) • 0.11 A18-34 (#38) • 0.15 A25-54 (#64) Rick & Morty (repeat) (ADSM, 9:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.369 million viewers (#82) • 0.28 HH (#65) • 0.13 A18-49 (#51) • 0.10 A18-34 (#43) • 0.15 A25-54 (#64) Family Guy (repeat) (ADSM, 10:00 PM, 30 min.) • 0.464 million viewers (#60) • 0.34 HH (#51) • 0.17 A18-49 (#34) • 0.16 A18-34 (#26) • 0.19 A25-54 (#42) My Hero Academia (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.) • 0.424 million viewers (#68) • 0.31 HH (#57) • 0.17 A18-49 (#34) • 0.15 A18-34 (#29) • 0.18 A25-54 (#45) Read more: https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-fox-and-ae-in-virtual-tie-for-tops-in-prime-time-among-adults-18-49 Hell, AOT actually tied with FG in Adults 18-34. It's standing toe-to-toe with a show that by all measures IS a hit, even on a bad night. But that doesn't change the fact that we need another episode of Family Guy to lead-in to Toonami on Saturday nights like we had during the first 19 weeks of this year once again. One just isn't cutting it. And is it just me or does Dragon Ball Super have NO replay value at 8:30? I'm not sure why they made that deal, but 0.07 for that episode in 18-34 just isn't cutting it! That's about 50K watching nationwide! Craptacular Encore Saturday much? At least Toonami is still staying above 0.10 in 18-34 for Top 50 shows at least, and I guess that's OK. 6/22/19 - Adults 18-49 Show Viewers Retention DBZ Kai 128,000* DBS (R) 128,000* 100.00%* TOONAMI MHA 224,000 102.75%* DBS (P) 353,000 157.59% AOTS3B 208,000 58.92% TPN 165,000 79.33% SAO3 170,000 103.03% LupinPt5 152,000 89.41% B. 11. You're probably not wrong, and that's a damn shame. Toonami got to where it is today by connecting to its audience in 2012-2014, then got kind of big-headed in 2015-mid 2017, and so now abandoning that has lead to its "downfall" in 2018 and 2019. But shows like SAO and AOT were hits during that "good" time frame, so they seemed like decent bets. And you can't exactly fault Toonami for trying with The Promised Neverland, though it has turned out to be kind of a dud. And so, here comes Gundam at 3 AM, and I hope they've got something good coming to replace the current two Aniplex shows which are both wrapping up soon!
  12. Samurai Jack Season 5 waves and says hello. Also, those FLCL sequels "nobody watched" actually pulled a 0.42 in Adults 18-34 (Progressive), which was great for that day and age. One year later, yeah, we've pretty much got absolute shit ratings that indicate almost as few people are watching as Chiller's ill-fated Wednesday night anime block in 2015. Live PD absolutely disgusts me. Sports are also a thorn in Toonami's side, but they're fickle and they've always been there. Toonami was able to pull off great numbers against the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup in 2015 and 2016. The phenomenon of Live PD rose in 2017, which is when Toonami's ratings went down, so it's pretty clear that it's the culprit for stealing ratings from Toonami. Dragon Ball Super, and to a lesser extent MHA, remain the only real compelling "draws" Toonami has (sadly, not AOT), but they're sadly not what they used to be either. I think breaking up the FGuy/DBS combo was a bad move. Too bad we don't have Primal coming in the fall...
  13. I wouldn't be so sure. Gundam: The Origin is pretty much being delivered that fate on arrival, at least in the beginning. Then again, if the likes of SAO can't even pull 300K at 12:30 AM, I guess I don't have much faith for it premiering at Midnight, so 3 AM it is... 🤔 There was an interesting phenomenon going on here though. While 18-34s were at an all-time low in the midnight hour for a premiere block (though ironically NOT 1 AM or 2 AM), the male demographics seemingly picked up the slack markedly for nearby 12-17 and 35-49. However, maybe that's just an effect of women not watching Toonami, as they're pretty much swooned by Nick At Nite for whatever reason at this point. And we STILL don't have ProgrammingInsider's (Son of the Bronx's) take on the ratings this week!

Actually, these total viewer numbers are just slightly better than those. Remember the "unholy megabomb" from 5 years ago that was Hellsing Ultimate X? These numbers (12-1:30 AM) are actually worse than HALF of that on average! It MUST get better from here, right???
  15. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/the-promised-neverland/episode-11/.144839 Grade: "A+"! Please don't screw this up, last episode of Season 1! I mean, there's NO WAY that can happen, right???
  16. This must happen in Episode 19.5 or something... https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/sword-art-online-alicization/episode-21/.144114 Grade: "B+", I guess for bigger than normal boobs!
  17. Ugh... http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-6-22-2019.html If we really are losing 10:30 PM, this is why!
  18. Well I guess that's correct, then! Only 10 episodes Part 2 of Season 3 is!!
  19. I actually believe one of these 3: they may be giving up 10:30 to Final Space reruns, and MHA may be falling back to Midnight they have something really big for Midnight they just can't announce yet or Gundam's 3 AM announcement will be retconned and it will actually either premiere at Midnight or other shows will be moved up, while TPN reruns begin at 3 AM.
  20. Oh yeah, SURE, rerun the biggest bomb ever in the Midnight timeslot at Midnight (and yes, the 10th episode of that show freaking BOMBED to the tune of a 0.12 in adults 18-34) while throwing the hot new Gundam show to 3 AM. I really believe Gundam: The Origin will be retconned for 3 AM and end up at midnight, while TPN reruns at 3 AM instead, if that's really all they've got. My precedent for that is the JoJo: Stardust Crusaders series premiere promo. When it aired, it announced the show for 12:30, but it ended up airing at midnight. Granted, 3 AM to Midnight is a much bigger jump, but there's no WAY they're airing a new show at 3 AM and leaving a rerun at midnight. Those two would definitely be swapped in any universe.
  21. There have been 3 shows/movies that Toonami has premiered at 3 AM since it came to Adult Swim: Beware The Batman, Hellsing Ultimate, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices. Gundam: The Origin would be the 4th. The two series, BTB and HU, eventually ended up getting a boost to earlier in the lineup (though BTB topped out at 2:30 AM), mostly due to good ratings. I'd be surprised if the same doesn't happen for this Gundam show at some point, like when either SAO (3 episodes left) or AOT (rumored to only have 5 episodes left) end. Just because it's beginning at 3 AM may not mean it STAYS at 3 AM. I could easily see Gundam: The Origin leapfrogging over the Narutoverse hour and maybe even Black Clover to land at 1 AM or 1:30 AM once a timeslot in the top half opens up. This could mean we're getting SAO's replacement 2 weeks earlier at Midnight on July 6th, but of course this is awkward as hell because we don't even know what show that IS! I also believe it's possible that the 3 AM promo gets retconned and replaced with one that mentions it premieres at Midnight or another earlier timeslot (with some shows being moved up). I cite JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders as evidence. At first it was to premiere at 12:30 AM to replace AOT Season 2, but Toonami's entire lineup got shifted forward by 30 minutes so it ended up at Midnight. Now 3 AM to Midnight would be an even bigger retcon but at least it wouldn't be unprecedented!
  22. At Momo-Con, we thought the future of Toonami's schedule was pretty set, at least with regard to the two upcoming known shows, Lupin III Part 5, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable was ending on June 8th, so most of us correctly predicted that Lupin would take its place. But we also assumed that since The Promised Neverland was ending on June 29th, Gundam would take its timeslot on July 6th. But Toonami threw us a curve ball, announcing a rerun episode of Hunter x Hunter for June 29th at 3 AM, and that Gundam would then be taking its place on July 6th. This leaves the occupant of the midnight timeslot on July 6th still unknown only 13 days out, by when we have usually gotten most shows announced. So, what's it going to be? Keep in mind that The Promised Neverland itself was announced only about 2 weeks before it premiered. NOTE of thread history: This thread's title has been changed several times. The original question was "What's Toonami Airing at Midnight on July 6th?", as The Promised Neverland had just ended on June 29th and needed a replacement. The answer turned out to be Sword Art Online: Alicization, as the new shows premiered at 1 AM (Food Wars!) and 3 AM (Gundam: The Origin), while SAO-A moved up from 12:30 to midnight for its final 2 episodes, and Lupin moved up from 1 AM to 12:30 to take its place. Then the title was changed to "What's Toonami Airing at Midnight on July 20th?" The answer turned out to be Attack on Titan, which was getting a double-header (rerun at 11:30, followed by premiere at midnight). After that, the title was changed to "What's Toonami Airing at Midnight on August 10th?" That answer turned out to be "Fire Force," which premiered on July 27th, but it was feared the 3rd episode might be delayed like it was in Japan; that turned out to not be the case (and now it's airing on Toonami only 2 weeks behind Japan and the same-day simuldub)! Midnight was the timeslot of the perceived "hole" in the schedule several times over the summer, but now that Fire Force is holding down Midnight for the foreseeable future, that's no longer the case.
  23. In SAO, it took Kirito & Eugeo 2 episodes to chop down a tree. In HxH, it took Gon 148 episodes just to get there!
  24. It's been a long journey, but here we are, finally at the end of the road. And yeah, I'm gonna need this!
