New Trailer for Dragon Ball Daima, apparently the last thing Akira Toriyama wrote before passing away

If Crunchyroll is getting the simulcast, I'd argue it's safe to assume it'll be dubbed exclusively there as well.

I mean, not only is it a 100% new Dragon Ball anime, but it's also the final project that Akira Toriyama worked on. Plus, if that rumor regarding Nadolny holds any water, that just adds further reasoning to the Sony exclusivity.

But if Daima does become a Crunchyroll exclusive dub? It'll join Spy X Family and Chainsaw Man as shows whose licensing money would eclipse Uzumaki's budget, and I'm not talking Naruto's ramen tab here.

At any rate, the best hope now is for them to go directly to Toei. Otherwise, the future's gonna get more interesting than I predicted.

Then getting to do the dub has never been in doubt. They are basically entitled to do it. The million dollar question is where the dub ends up. If it was any other show, we could confidently say anywhere but Toonami. But since we know Toei can trump Crunchyroll in these decisions (even going as far as forcing script changes they do not like), Toei could force their hand and get it on Toonami.

Exclusive or not, this will easily be the most expensive thing Toonami has picked up in years, if they end up getting it. The only way “costs too much” will be a factor for them not getting it is if it literally puts AS in financial danger if they pick it up. Which is where we have to wonder, how bad to big name players like Disney and Netflix want it? I’d say there is some level of interest, but as neither of them are exclusively working with anime, they may not try as hard as their bank account allows.

If it's dubbed in-house at Crunchyroll that would be a somewhat interesting development given Sabat's own Okatron5000 studio has been dubbing Dragon Ball anime since Kai. But it's not at all unheard of for Crunchyroll's own studio to dub a Toei show / film since they've been doing that for One Piece for years now.

Looks like people are starting to find theater listings for the Daima dub staring on November 10th. So if this holds true, it’s unlikely to fill in one of the upcoming open slots. Of course, ol reliable Two Piece can hold a spot open as long as they need it, but we are looking at an absolute earliest being 11/16, but I doubt it hits cable 6 days after a theater special.

So combing through this, I don’t see the Crunchyroll logo anywhere. Not sure if that means anything.

Anyway, we know for certain now this isn’t airing on November 2nd for Toonami.

November 16th on the other hand... "That's doable"

They could wait till January but if they have the opportunity to start it in late November or even the first week of December, they'll likely do that.

The simulcast is being shared between Hulu and Crunchyroll so it's exclusive to neither and the first 3 dubbed episodes are coming to theaters in early November.

Regardless of when it happens, it seems inevitable that Toonami will air Daima.

But if they're holding out for a November 16th premiere then we're in for up to 3 weeks of marathons or other forms of stalling. :LithiumSmileyS:

This is why I'm hoping for a January premiere on Toonami. If I wanted more stalling, I'd just watch some old Looney Tunes shorts.

I really want to crack open a bottle, but it doesn’t say anything about the dub or if it’s exclusive to Netflix. This might be a situation like Zom 100 where it ends up everywhere. So I don’t think we are safe from this turd just yet. But it’s a little bit of hope.

On the one hand, it would make sense if Netflix grabs the last Toriyama-led DB anime as a dubbed exclusive, with shows like Terminator Zero and the Ranma 1/2 reboot joining it.

On the other hand, this announcement is most likely for the subbed version. The dubbed version is likely coming later.
