It's alarming, to say the least.

Not really considering the sheer amount of drug use that went on back in those days and insane road schedule wrestlers were on. And plus wrestlers esstianally fall down for a living and taking all those bumps will take it's toll.

But, it's not just drug use with the occasional head injury.  Drug use is notoriously capable of disguising other psychological conditions, so you can't help but worry that CTE is a bigger factor in these deaths even though pro wrestling is supposed to be choreographed enough to reduce that danger.

I just feel it's a combination of these things and you can throw the CTE in the mix due to taking chair shots to the head and those hard ass WWF mats prior to 1998

It probably is.  Hopefully, this next generation lives longer.

I was watching Reelz back to back docs I saw a few. Andre the Giant Owen Hart Macho Man and Eddie Guerrero. I missed the one about China. They all had 1 thing in common:

Drug and Alcohol Abuse (including steroids or HGH)

They also all take crazy leaps and other things that rattle the body but I’m not including that because it’s a for gone conclusion that they’d have that in common

Vince McMahon is a human piece of shit how he ran his business

Wrestling promoters in general are just awful people. McMahon was easily the worst. No other promoter damaged the wrestling business more than him.

If other organizations use the same business practices as the WWE viewers that care should say something.  In the WWE Vince had the wrestlers classified as independent contractors despite not owning their names and not being able to wrestle for other organizations. There’s zero worker’s compensation and no retirement benefits. Wrestlers like Roddy Piper (he also has a reelz doc) didn’t come back because they really wanted to, they returned because they needed the money.  There’s probably a lot worse stuff too. I stopped watching wrestling about 15 years ago. So idk what has improved if anything

Outside of WWE it just seems that a lot of wrestlers these day aren't properly trained

Sadly it seems like the less training they have the more people want to watch. People love seeing randos getting thrown on top of folding tables and getting smacked with chairs 😬

I really wonder the WWE wrestlers are still classified as independent contractors now? TKO now owns WWE so I wonder what has changed from within

That would be great if it’s no longer like that.  I saw a piece on the WWE on last week tonight w John Oliver but it was before McMahon retired. The piece was done anywhere between 3 and 100 years ago

Indie wrestling in a nushell

Omg

the eddie Guerrero doc told a horrific story. He had a match against the dude that pretended to be a Texas oil tycoon complete w dumb hat. (Idr his name) at one point Guerrero cuts his forehead, common practice at the time, but he cut an artery and almost died. Wrestling maybe fake and scripted but the athleticism and stunts are real. Idk if wrestling went to blood packs after that.

I’m pretty sure I might’ve seen that too if it wasn’t a pay per view situation.  JBL was his opponent (just remembered his name) I remember a match where Guerrero was gushing blood pretty badly

I also forgot to take into account the sheer amount of botches that happen in a wrestling match. It's just impossible for a wrestler to have not been a victim of a botch throughout their entier career. No matter how careful a wrestler is or how choreographed wrestling is botches happen.

Then I did not see it but yeah it’s crazy when you realize how long ago shit happened. It blows my mind that every draft pick in the NFL draft was born AFTER 2000….it’s like fuuuuuuuuuck 🫠

Yep and ironically Owen Hart commited one the most famous botches ever when he dropped Steve Austin on his head termporarily paralizing him in the middle of their match at SummerSlam 97

Holy shit!  And I thought learning about how in the end, Andre the Giant could barely move during his last match when he wrestled Hulk Hogan, was bad

Never met Sid. Was an acquaintance of his cousin who looked like him except about 10 years older and 100 pounds skinnier.

Didn't know this before, but Sid played a big part in getting Harlem Heat to the Big Leagues, they even crashed at his place for a bit: WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T Explains Sid Vicious' Role In Harlem Heat Getting A Break (wrestlinginc.com) Dude had a reputation as a flake as far as management concerned and he did some crazy shit but he was capable of doing cool things.
