One Piece anime remake coming to Netflix? Starts with East Blue Saga and intends to tell the whole story.

I had no idea this was a thing. Wit Studio (Spy Family) and Masashi Koizuka (AoT) will direct. This sounds like a complete retelling with the goal of maximizing the series' potential. Not something I would have ever considered with the original still going strong. I agree that there's a lot of room for editing and fine tuning w/ the OG series but not sure an entirely new series is warranted.

Honestly? A whole anime with no Toei shortcuts, manga pacing, and allowance for improvement? I welcome it.

At a speed of 3 to 5 chapters an episode, this should reach where the current anime is in 6 years.

I still think it’s weird to do it concurrently with both the main anime and the big budget LA show.

The LA proved that Oda needed a second draft.

Because it, unlike the manga or anime, was good.

If they're smart, this will be a third draft.

I'm curious as hell to see how they go about it because I've always been a fan of the idea and setting of One Piece. I agree that there's a lot of great material to mine. It's the mid to later arcs I'm really curious about. Fish-Man Island and Dressrosa have a significant amount of filler and the story is a little to a lot less focused imo. It''ll be interesting to see how they go about cleaning it up and what they choose to focus on.
