Over the summer, I purchased a 1979 Mercury boat engine...

Deemed the "Tower of Power", these inline six two-stroke outboards were pretty boss for their day.

This one, I got for $40 and it was laying on a shed floor. In fact, it was so close by that I hooked a small trailer to my ATV and used that to go pick it up.

I completely re-wired it and had plans to bolt it on the back of a 1980's Galaxy 19' boat, but the boat deal fell through.

Tonight my stepfather and I poured fuel in all six cylinders, and jumped the engine over using my weak golf cart battery. Since it had fired up instantly, I had to take a video of it.

After about 20 years of laying on its side...

For sale!

I used to think "no way I'd buy an old beat up bus,"

Wouldn't bet I'd waste that kind of money.

But then one day I found a vintage one.

Recognized the frame from 1962

Now I'm searching craigslist for replacement seats

And frankly I don't even know what page I'm on.

Man, another complication;

A tire rotation takes the axel out.

So much more is left to do;

I wouldn't have bought it if I only knew....

Now the engine is blown and I don't have room

For all the things it's leaking.

I had the muffler go,

It needs replacement shoes

Discontinued by GM.

Half it's wires are frayed

and it needs new plate

Man it's all broke down.

Restoring a bus looks a lot like a tragedy now.

-to the tune of Taylor Swift's "the story of us"

I don't listen to Taylor Swift, but just from reading those lyrics she must have been talking about the Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier.
