Got the explanation of benefits for my MRI

So apparently my insurance did "discount" it some from the 3k charge it would have been. But it's still like a 1.5k charge. Yay.

Also they posted the results of the mri. I'm guessing the doctor is gonna call me to help interpret them cause I'm not really sure what it all means. Looks like I do have a tumor in my brain (don't freak out I have a condition where that's just a thing that happens) that wasn't there the last time I had an mri. So that's cool.

Wellllllll this is where they get you if you don’t understand insurance lingo...did you meet your out of pocket maximum? Because even if the deductible is met you also have to meet the OPM...

like mine? Ok so I have a $600 deductible...but I have a $3000 OPM...so say I paid my $600 and all of my normal visits or tier 1-3 drugs are covered 100%...but...in one of my doctor visits I had to have some special tests done like...an EKG for instance....and it costs $800...my insurance gives me a “contracted rate” tho they like to call that a discount but that’s bullshit...and they bring my EKG to $400...but since I haven’t met the OPM...I have to pay the $400...and my OPM is now 2600...

also...Jesus fuck man...are they gonna run some tests to determine if it’s benign or do they already know?

jesus hope it's nothing too serious

I mean I've known about this condition since I was a child and I've known that the tumors are one of the symptoms. They've always said it was a mild case. Some people get the tumors all over their body but they're almost always benign. I haven't been having any issues just though it was a good idea to get checked out for the first time in 15 years.

Yikes, that is a lot to take in.

I mean I'm not too surprised. Tumors in the brain is a symptom of the condition I have and I'd noticed a bump on my scalp similar to one I had removed from my finger last year (which was a tumor from this condition)

So my insurance kind of sucks. It's free from my employer and I have a $5000 deductible. So the insurance will still do the contracted rate stuff but will pay nothing beyond that.

And I'm not sure. I'm just going off the results they posted on my online medical file haven't actually talked to doc yet I'm guessing he'll call soon. Brain tumors are super common with this condition I have but I think they're almost always benign.

Yeah the contracted rate already means they haven’t paid anything...they don’t pay that amount in between...it’s basically set up as like a perk of having insurance and a punishment if you don’t...

oh well that’s good...do you experience migraines? Or do you know if they are gonna try to remove it?

I'm so sorry our hell country is like this, burdening you further when you are already dealing with so much. I hope you are okay just remember to remember that it's probably just benign fluff in there and hopefully don't let it make you too stressed.

Also def don't let that crazy, unfair medical bill stress make you feel compelled to not take time off work if you ever feel that you should, fuck em and take care of yourself

Love being surprised with huge medical bills for simple, inexpensive procedures and being forced to accept it because "I'm sorry sir that is all your plan covers"

I like being surprised that rainman didn’t hit you with that rock
