Well... what you've got there is a half-sword/half-gun. So obviously the way to use it is half-swording/half-gunning.

Half-swording is basically gripping the weapon by the blade and swinging it like a club, trying to hit your target with the grip.

It's for cutting limes. Back in the days of the old west, bartenders would need to cut limes but still be able to shoot if trouble broke out.
