I like to let the old sit around unused to remind me that participating in consumer culture is never going to bring lasting satisfaction, and even if I was to replace or repair them tomorrow there'd be no significant change to my life, and to use as impromptu furniture.

I'm talking electronics.

Door chime ib my car didn't work. Repaired it for free rather than paying $45 for a new Ford part.

I had that mentality when I was younger.  Would tinker with shit to figure it.  Born naturally curious I suppose.  Then I would mentally tackle it till I got it down.  As I have become older, I have gotten lazy.  I tend to just get something that I have half reasearched when I used to wait...researched and weighed the pros and cons when I have pretty much knew that I wanted it.

I have some busted electronics around. They're harder to just use as a shelf or chair, but they're there.

Oh don't get me wrong hun, if I know it's fucked... I trash it.

But if it is something I have never dealt with before, I'll hop on the youtube and see if it is a repairable thing. If not, goodbye!

Mechanic...I break shit and buy a new one...disposible income problems.  But fixing it is where I need to get back to.  I used to at least try to fix shit before throwing it away...that laziness and the drive to have the newest shiny thing is what did me in.  I used to place a lot of value in memories and feelings that an object that has been with me for a long time gave me.  Been uprooted a few times...makes it more important I guess now in hindsight....
