Admin
I've been kinda busy - not just lately but even the last few years of the boards. I would have been - probably way more jarring if it had happened post-Lithium. but we had that nodebb year that sort of paved the way to not so much caring anymore. It would be nice to have had some sort of archive to visit though. It's funny how - like the end of the boards sort of cut me off from AS. Like I don't much watch it at all anymore. Whereas when the board was up, I made a conscious effort to keep up with it. And I'm probably one of a small handful of people who actually likes almost everything on AS. But I don't think - I'm trying to think of if I've even watched one single Adult Swim show since the boards went down and I don't think I have. I haven't even caught any new FGs or ADs on Fox or TBS. It was sort of not just a single habitual activity, but like several habitual activities sort of all tied up in one thing. Yet it's been a pretty simple separation for me for the most part. I remember in the past agonizing over the possibility of the boards going down too. But - just that one day I logged in, boards were gone. Drew was like "oh my god nobody told you guys?" and that was that. It was a little jarring, but I'd kind of already moved on, just because the nodebb thing was so completely awful. Not entirely without its entertainment value, but - basically pretty awful. It surprised me then, and I'm even still a little surprised now at - just how relatively low energy my response has been to the ASMB going away. NaBarney
Admin[/member] did the asmb admins consider the content on either lithium or nodebb to potentially be some sort of legal liability, did this contribute to their decision to delete them? Admin
Admin[/member] did the asmb admins consider the content on either lithium or nodebb to potentially be some sort of legal liability, did this contribute to their decision to delete them? I don't think so. I think it was a combination of incompetence and the inability to fix the mess that was made of the Lithium/Nodebb switch. I would speculate that it came down to "hey so we can fix this mess with some time and money ... or we can just shut it down and move on". And previously, when Lazzo would float changing things boardwise, there was a burgeoning community to voice dissent and also a healthy legion of admins between him and us to explain the whys and wherefors sufficiently to keep him at bay I think. But this time around, the boards were probably back on the table, and there were zero admins to advocate for it, and a vastly dwindled audience (both gradually over time and then yet another massive drop for the nodebb debacle). So - it was probably just one of those "okay so we can shuffle person x and funds for this and do this and fix the boards" or "we can shut it down and move on", there were just no one around to make a compelling argument to the contrary, the user base was erratic, annoyed, up in arms, etc. All the admins that ever cared about the place were gone to other departments. so I think it was much more just a "k hm so money and people to the boards, or shut boards down?" and all signals just pointed to shutting it down. so they did. NaBarney
Oh that's too cold and real for me. I'm just going to go w my thing because it's fun. I like the idea of the cost being the equivalent to them of what like $14 dollars is to me and you, and that they actually decided to shut it down because not that it was underperforming necessarily, but that it was doing so completely the opposite of what they wanted it to do. The ASMB shutdown would've affected me infinitely more if UE didn't exist.
