Naraku4656
that is a completely different situation. lets make fast food 21+, we obviously can't trust people under the age of 21 to make reasonable decisions for their health. while we're at it, let's restrict the internet to anyone under the age of 21, we can't trust people under 21 not to go to those sex chat rooms all the kids are raving about
Rogue_Alphonse
i know people who waited until 21 to buy a drink, but not until 21 to have one well yeah, most do because they CAN'T BUY ONE

NaBarney
that is a completely different situation. No it isn't, why do you think so? Because cigarettes don't have calories?
NaBarney
because it has never been restricted and parents are much more likely to buy soda for their kids than cigarettes? None of the parallels you people are making remotely compare to cigarettes. The majority of smokers also smoke packs every day. The ratio of people eating fast food every day or drinking liters of soda a day is incredibly lower than the rate of smokers who smoke at least a pack a day "Because it has never been restricted" yeah that's a big part of why everyone is fat and sick now "And parents are much more likely to buy soda for their kids than cigarettes" yeah, exactly, if we criminalize it like we do cigs then many parents would stop giving their kids soda which would go a long way toward addressing the public health crisis it contributes to "The vast majority of smokers started when they kids and changes like these along with tax increases have already shown to decrease smoking among kids." The vast majority of soda drinkers drank soda as kids too, restricting it to 18+ and levying a soda/sugar tax would decrease consumption among kids You want to protect 20 year olds from cigarettes so why aren't you for protecting children from soda and even more sugary and unhealthy juices that a lot of parents don't understand the health risks of let alone the children they feed them to? NaBarney
That is if your actual reason for supporting the idea of further increasing the age restriction of cigarettes by years is the health of the public, as you claim, and not just a personal contempt for tobacco products
scoobdog
Bad analogy is bad. HF drinks are indeed bad, but the analogy fails because they aren't expressly coping devices specifically.
