We actually have to learn about that stuff in history class. In Japan, Japanese history is an optional course, and I have no idea how explicit it is. One thing that was oddly white-washed when I first learned about him in school was Christopher Columbus, though.

The Nazi stuff was mostly in that movie. Which... yeah. Though it is funny Japan is fine with referencing and criticizing Germany's role in World War II through their entertainment, but rarely ever their own.
