Dragon Ball Z Kai Episode 157 Discussion

It's funny how that old list has Final Form Frieza and Super Saiyan Goku at 12 million and 15 million, but the page you linked has them at 120 million and 150 million. Difference of a decimal point. When did Trunks say the Androids were that strong? Didn't he say something like the future Androids were stronger but Trunks could at least put up a fight, whereas he had no chance against the present Androids? Either way those jumps seem way too big. Like I said, power levels weren't really needed at that point anyway, since we could gauge strength via abilities and feats performed, matchups, etc. They came from the scouters, after all, so there's no story reason for them to appear either. Well, maybe the Androids, but I doubt Gero would use the same metric as Frieza? And we know that pretty much anything Toriyama says now will be bullshit so it's not like we want more information from him anyway. Either way, those numbers sure aren't ones I am going to be headcanoning. I like my old list. Even then, that one is probably not accurate (possibly overpowered) too. Also could have sworn there was a joke in the Resurrection F movie where Frieza brags about his power level, which is nowhere in the ballpark of any of those amounts on either of those lists, and Vegeta and Goku say something along the lines "yeah we don't do that anymore." -
Dragon Ball Super Episode 58 Discussion

I don't remember Shu ever saying that. Kind of annoying that Mai looks and sounds completely different than she used to. Pilaf is not the same age. They all got de-aged. I can see people forgetting they met or knew someone. There's people from high school that remember me that I have no clue who the fuck they are. But the Pilaf Gang were involved in some pretty major events, like when Goku turned into a Great Ape and destroyed Pilaf's castle. No one is going to forget about that. It would also be another thing if they played it off like a joke where the character doesn't remember some minor villain or character from way earlier in the series. This has happened with Ichigo and Luffy. But that's not really how it's portrayed here. It could be that Bulma knows who they are but just doesn't see them as a threat. -
Obviously not, but Demarco keeps saying how he can't get shows. There will be competition, just like there was in the old days when Toonami had to compete with other actual TV networks which were interested in running anime at the time. So I don't get all the excuses. Does he expect to do business in a vacuum? That's true but premieres are lacking at the moment and reruns are further encroaching. Well we know there are still plenty of people tuning in, regardless of whether something was or is currently streaming elsewhere, in sub or dub. I think that factor is overstated. Not everyone has every streaming service it takes to watch every show, or necessarily goes out of their way to watch anime that way. Yes more people are abandoning cable and the companies refuse to change their business model or lower prices. Cable is on borrowed time in general so how much longer can Toonami last? What will Demarco do when that day comes? Commit seppuku? In theory the dubbers should have access to all the material before it even airs, assuming the series is entirely completed before it starts airing, so there shouldn't be a delay. But no, that would not be ideal. I think random breaks and moving around in the schedule is what killed Revolution and V. I seem to recall one of the networks blaming the fact that shows with overarching plots don't build viewers LOL. And what's with shows taking mid-season winter breaks these days? That never used to be a thing. At least with Rebels it made sense to take a break during movie hype, but everyone else? And Supergirl did that is now taking another break. It's frustrating and does not inspire confidence. I don't think anybody expects them to pick up that many shows. They'd have to be on more than one day a week to even have room for them. But decline of the past couple years is definitely noticeable, both in terms of number and how major the shows are they've picked up. Think that is what they had to do with Gundam. They made multiple trips to Japan to negotiate an end the Gundam embargo, directly with Sunrise. But that was because they really wanted to get Gundam on the block for people that had been requesting it, and Sunrise is known to be difficult to work with. Don't know if this would be repeated for other shows, though other shows may not be as much trouble to directly negotiate rights regardless. Well I hope they make something good, unlike IGPX. I also hope they stay away from retro fapfests like with FLCL, a show that was perfect as is and needed no sequel. At least Dandy, GITS, and Big O were worthwhile. With FLCL it remains to be seen. I can say right now though that if they were going to spend that kind of money, it should have been on something else, something new, or if it had to be a sequel, one that was warranted. But Demarco is too stuck in the past and in his own bubble.

You'd do best to avoid Babbling/Rants, lol. Unless you like watching a train wreck. Yup if you don't like a show you don't have to watch it. I maintained a completionist policy where I would watch everything ASA and Toonami showed, but after being very patient with Hunter x Hunter, I had to break my own self-imposed rule and drop the show. You don't see me in the HxH threads endlessly ranting. There's nothing forcing people to watch shows they don't like. Continuing to watch something you hate is actually an abnormal thing to do, haha. Yeah, like many fandoms, most of the hatred comes from infighting within the community, rather than people outside of it who aren't interested in or like the thing. I mean, even when anime was less popular and unknown or wildly made fun of by non-fans, you had the sub vs dub bullshit and supporters of shows warring with each other like console fanboys. Now anime seems to be more mainstream and accepted even by non-fans, and you see its influence everywhere, but anime fans continue to bicker amongst themselves. -
Jason and Gill made multiple trips to Japan to negotiate an end to the Gundam embargo, and Sunrise are notorious for being difficult to deal with, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had to accept such a deal. Yeah people were requesting Gundam and now they've answered that request. Not so sure they will air much more of it, if any. Either way they can say they did what the fans asked, and if we don't get anymore then that just means the ratings didn't justify the efforts to acquire them and the cost. I'd prefer to see other stuff, like you said, myself.

Don't know if movie studios pay off critics but they are definitely pretty selective about the quotes they put on trailers and such. I mean just by sheer statistics there's bound to be some critic that likes even the shittiest of movies. The cupcakes, really? Not sure they were that featured or it was even said what flavor they were? If this were Kekkaishi I could understand LOL. Haha, ouch. Wouldn't say it's that bad but I think the issue is people just have shonen fatigue and Black Clover wasn't cutting it for them. -

I think you put more thought into this than Demarco did. Your idea admittedly sounds like it could pan out and has some sense to it. Only problem with that, is while DBZ and FLCL both have the nostalgia thing going for them, they are pretty different from each other, and DBZ was and is mega-popular, mainstream even, while FLCL was always a weird, niche series. Could that change with the reairing of FLCL in front of more people in a prominent timeslot, and then bringing out the new shows? Hard to say. Yeah well Naruto cribbed a lot from HxH, but was actually entertaining, at least for a while, and Black Clover is close to Naruto and Fairy Tail. So yeah suppose that combo could work. Yes they should give more warning. People are likely to think their show got cancelled, etc. Hell, some people thought SAO got cancelled just because the first season finished airing. -
Oh yeah that's right. It must be a Japan thing then. I wouldn't personally agree with that assessment, but there were lots of people complaining about the story. Don't know if I would say it was a majority or not since I know complainers can be vocal, especially manga/anime fans, and I would just be going by forums and comments, etc. I do believe the ratings were going down in Japan, though. I mean, Bleach a long-running shonen, they wouldn't have stopped the anime without reason if they thought they could still get more mileage out of it. Even odder still a live action movie is being made though. It could be all of that. I would also like to think that Japanese fans finally stopped putting up with filler. Whatever the reason I am glad things have changed! Yeah I've noticed that as well. You hear more and more about authors having more control and sometimes even direct involvement with the anime productions. From what I understand this was pretty rare in the past. Bleh! lol

Care to elaborate?

We know by now that that doesn't have much impact, though. If a show appeals to people, they will watch it, and not everybody watches everything in those places first. So far their "original content" has been sequels to old shows. Samurai Jack, yeah, I can see it. People wanted a conclusion. Even after all these years there was still people who wanted to see it, as borne out by the ratings. But FLCL? No one but Demarco wanted that. It remains to be seen if the new FLCL shows will be good. Jury is still out. It also was never mainstream like Jack was. Their actually original original was IGPX. Which, admittedly, was a very original idea, but horribly executed.

Maybe not the entire budget, but a sizable chunk of it, it seems. Where are the new shows? We know one was delayed for legal reasons, but what about the others? Why replace things with reruns if you've got new shows waiting in the wings? We're already four months into 2018...
-
Yes, seppuku. I even looked it up to see I spelled it right, but I guess I didn't look at the google results correctly. Not sure how you got bukkake from that, though.
-
I didn't think she held much sway anymore. Honestly don't hear about her much anymore. She replaced Lazzo as whipping boy and now she's been replaced by Demarco. Have no clue. I can't imagine it would flow with other shows too well and I'm pretty sure it will kill retention. And yeah putting it last is a waste of their investment. So yeah I dunno.
-
I'm watching Ghost in the Shell, so I can't cut out early. Quite annoying. I'd rather no slot than Bebop airing. It's been run to death enough as it is. It also wouldn't create the impression of there being a slot wasted. How do you know it's not taking up a premiere slot?
-
No one else gives a shit that the block is wasting away?
-
Oh I see. Odd. Don't really get why the show was made that way? They could toss this on last at night before comedy and probably wouldn't do much harm, regardless of if they air both parts. Though that may be throwing their money away. I dunno, I just really doubt they would air something like this except maybe for April Fool's. There's "confusing" and then there's ratings suicide. They aren't going to go too crazy.

In DBZ when you alter events it just creates an another timeline, which avoids paradoxes and is ironically probably the most scientifically plausible form of time travel. =3
