Over the weekend I was having a conversation with a parent whose child (16) went to a NYE party and drank, possibly used some drugs, and they got really sick. Vomiting everywhere, incoherent and paranoid, the parents, obviously concerned, took their child to the ER. The bill was $10.5k. Their insurance company refused to pay because the child committed the illegal act of drinking underage. yes, you read right. The insurance company refused to pay for a possible OD/alcohol poisoning because it’s illegal to drink under 21 and drug use is illegal. Health insurance shouldn’t behave like NF insurance where they don’t cover accidents for impaired drivers. Children fuck up and do dumb shit sometimes. Shit like not paying for medical care because of a legality is stupid and dangerous. Luckily the hospital knocked the bill down to $5.5k, which they really can’t afford, and the kid is paying for the bill my point is this is why and how we get Mangiones in this world because of terrible policies. Healthcare in this country is a pathetic joke
