Yeah, pretty much just like dorms in animation school. I would know. I lived in an animation school dorm for about 4 or so months. It was a nonstop party. However, I think young people know each other in animation school better, so they're a bit more courteous than I'm sure some drunk fanboys are who have no real stake in the situation's outcome. It's really just a bunch of young people letting off steam and relishing in the fact that they had the opportunity to escape their own unique abusive or dysfunctional home environments. We all need a vacation from that now and then. In other words, most of the people are glad to be there. There are three main places you can meet collaborators and fiends who share your passions, : Animation school, cons, and animetion studios / comic book, manga publishers offices. That's why so many people go to cons. They want in. Studios and colleges are a bit more challenging to get into, you have to go through a trial period, interview, and waiting period.
For an anime convention, all you have to do is buy a ticket and you're in. That's not so hard!
