I am completely out of touch with AS since they axed the board. I don't even know what's on the block anymore. i feel shame inside.

email's always been a problem. I sent an email about it though. hmmm (I wonder if he'll get it). basically for password resets I have to do it manually (hence the creation of the "Password Recovery" board). also when people reset passwords, don't forget to update saved passwords in browsers and stuff like that, or else a browser will try to log you in with the wrong password or something. also make sure to check the login information regarding how long your session will last. I pretty much always just check the "always on" box, but if I don't do that, there's a default 60 minutes thing that kicks you off after that amount of time.

yeah. that and also looking at email notifications (which is a pretty good feature for people that want those)

email has never worked with this board and I don't know why.

when a mod handles a report it disappears off the list. so you don't see every report automatically. any reports that have already been dealt with wont' be visible if you click on the little "open reports" notification. I yes, posting another user's contact information seemingly maliciously is grounds for a mod to act on their own. A pic is a little more of a gray area. But I suppose if said pic was posted in a seemingly solely malicious context, it should probably be removed. Where it's posted is also a thing. Flames of various types are generally more allowed in the Rants section than in the FFA section. I actually try not to think about this stuff too much anymore. At any rate, I just now posted a March moderation update. So there is that. will be updating the thread over the next few days or so as I am messing around with shit again.

It's actually up to you though. You can post it in either anime or toonami. or arts. or even make different version for each. Anime/toonami gets regular traffic. Arts doesn't atm.

today scaled back the board as far as how much of it is visible to guests just to see if it had any effect on the spambot situation. so don't be alarmed if you can't read quite as much of the board as you once could when not logged on. if it doesn't have any particular effect, I'll probably switch stuff back on for guests again. gonna leave it like this for a few weeks at least to get a good read on if it has any effect.

Media Boards get views. Also it provides the additional potential for niche posting that wouldn't exist without it. Basically also provides places for people to wander on-site/without leaving. Also they provide search engine fodder. There are many many many reasons to maintain media folders. so no.

also just on a personal note, it's not a goal for me that DF be the highest traffic folder. I would say more the goal would be that overall board traffic not decrease. It doesn't even have to increase. Just that it not decrease significantly. Also still not 100% sure where I'm going to put it on the board. I'm going to be messing with the structure this week and figuring that shit out.

It's not super hard. It's just that it's a fairly small piece of a very large puzzle. And I get super tired of these types of accusations. I get that people want what they want and they want it RIGHT NOW, but - I mean I may be naive here, but I have some goals for this place, both short term and long term. And there are things I need to work in certain ways, and things I want to see happen. And there are different levels of listening. Like part of it is listening to the complaints as they manifest on the board, part of it is listening to the actual data. Because people have a tendency to over-exaggerate things when they want something. If you don't have any data to fall back on, you're kinda constantly reacting to wave after wave of butthurt and rage. But - when we get into these discussions, it's always me trying to explain stuff, and then you come at me with - either I'm trying to please everybody, or I'm just lying because I have some sinister agenda. The agenda is basically to set up some stuff I want to do such that people get something out of it and I get something out of it. There are a lot of working parts to that. And a lot of stuff to balance. But Dumpster Fires is indeed something I still want. I have to figure out a way to do that such that it works for the board, not just a handful of users. I apologize if that's hard to hear. But it's just the truth. I want Dumpster Fires. It'll be back. But there's more for me to consider than just how big a tantrum you can throw, or how many times you can ignore the things I'm trying to tell you in favor of just calling me a liar and making demands again for something that I've already told you will be back.

The Rank suggestion is probably a good one too. Like make it accessible possibly only to users over a certain rank or something. I'm not anti-Dumpster Fires. Because it was my baby and my big "ultimate solution" to message board moderation etc. So it's no like I'm not personally invested in it. But data is data and personal bias is personal bias. Due to the data, it's off at the moment. Due to personal bias, it'll probably be back. The trick is squeezing it in among a bunch of other stuff that's kind of more of a priority. But I will be hacking up the structure again (possibly this week) so might try something with it when I do that.

That's a possibility. We're under no real delusions about how hard it is to get people to check out a new board/site (especially probably a message board). My guess would be that building a user base will be a super long and super slow process. The overall effects of Dumpster Fires seemed to be a sort of negatively influential effect on some specific users, kind of felt like it was an overall drag on the place mood-wise, and also had a definitive effect on daily traffic. Before DF, we had more posting than after DF was created. And then after I did away with DF, we again went back to more logins and posting. But - with the constant hammering we've been getting with Spambots, I've been trying to set up each section such that certain invisible ranks are required to access/post there. Haven't really implemented anything, because for the most part we've been catching the spambots before they post (we're getting about 20 a day lately). So it's possible I could eventually use that to provide some users access to the Dumpster Fires board or something. It's not a priority atm. Because there are probably literally like 100 or more other things I need to do first. But it's possible.

Checked out the High Court on Comedy Central. it was - pretty awful. They seem to be attempting to do a real judge type show with real complaints, and then Doug Benson is just high or something. and that's - funny. I guess. But - it's just another one of those dumbass reality based shows where stupid people shout over each other and then I guess the theory was that Doug Benson would say funny things, but he just kinda sits there like a moron. It might as well be the Jerry Springer show or something like that, the jokes just disappear into the yawning chasm of the reality TV style bickering. It's the worst show I've seen in a long time. But I think that's because I avoid reality shows mostly, and this is that, but kind of tricked me into thinking it wasn't. So normally I wouldn't have checked it out, but thought it was going to be - like a comedy show. with jokes and stuff. It really should be on TRU TV. Or what Tru TV used to be before they got Billy On the Street and started trying to revamp their image a bit. I guess - maybe it should be on TLC. It's just that level of crap.
